I recently had the pleasure of dining at Dr. Ho's Humble Pie, and let me tell you, it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish! As a professional food critic, I am always on the lookout for exceptional culinary delights, and this place truly exceeded my expectations.
First and foremost, I must rave about the French fries. They were perfectly cooked, with a crispy golden exterior and a fluffy, tender interior. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and I found myself reaching for one after another, unable to resist their addictive deliciousness.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the Seasoned Shrimp Salad Sandwich. Oh, dear readers, this sandwich was out of this world! The shrimp were impeccably seasoned, perfectly cooked, and had a delightful succulence. The combination of the fresh ingredients, the zesty dressing, and the lightly toasted bread created a symphony of flavors that danced on my palate. It was a harmonious balance of textures and tastes, leaving me wanting more with each mouthwatering bite.
Beyond the incredible dishes, the staff at Dr. Ho's Humble Pie deserves special recognition. From the moment I walked in, they greeted me with warm smiles and genuine friendliness that made me feel right at home. They were attentive, fast to respond, and took my order with utmost professionalism. Read moreAfter living in Charlottesville for the past decade, I've been to Dr. Hos a number of times. The pizza was always great. I was recently driving back from a few hour long road trip down south and wanted to bring my friend that has never been there. About 10 minutes out, I called in a pizza, thinking it would be almost done by the time I arrived, and if there were free seats I could transfer the tab to a waiter. We arrived, the pizza still had about 10 minutes left, it was busy as expected for a weekend, but there were plenty of free seats. When I asked if I could transfer the order to a waiter and pointed out the free seats, the hostess simply said, "Sorry, we don't do that here." I was a bit taken aback, the pizza was still in the oven cooking, and we ended up taking the pizza to go. In hindsight, I should have stayed and asked to speak to someone else, she could have just been following a strict rule. Pizza was great, but not the best experience for a local place to turn down a simple request, especially one that would have earned slightly more money in the drinks we would have ordered, and the tips for the waiter. Good pizza gets the 4 stars, but poor service takes the 1 off. I still recommend Dr Hos, but don't call in a pizza to save time waiting if you want to eat there, they...
Read moreI came here as a Sunday surprise from my SO. The atmosphere is fun, clean, and eclectic. The pizza is tasty, if heavy-handed at times, though freshly made - and not bad at all. The crust is crunchy and middling in thickness, but had a hard time standing up to the piled-on ingredients. We got two halves in a 14 inch crust, which may have been the issue. In our case one half was sweet pineapple, spicy jalapenos and chicken, matched with a half 'humble pie', essentially a supreme pizza. That brand is a good one. Folding the crust was difficult, an experience I'd call "scrapey", but a worthy crunch is the result. The sauce uses a lot of tomato paste, making it rich, earthy and acidic. I like spicy, and was surprised at how spicy the jalapeno chicken pie was. Deliciously not-mild. Our visit was plagued by frenzied service and lots (lots!) of kids, drinking groups of distracted parents, an arguing couple exchanging snipes loudly while discussing beers on tap, hopeful patrons looking for seats passing through. I'm saying that a lot was going on for a Sunday, friends. As an experience, it was a mixed bag, but expectations were high. Maybe we will try again on a slower night. I had my eye on...
