Came on a busy saturday night with my family of 4 to see the live music (which was actually not bad). We had also been once before in the winter time.
Quality: Food is of above average quality depending on the item. Lots of home made food which you can easily tell, and I appreciate, sweet potato fries are very good, side vegetables are fresh and cooked properly. I got prime rib both times. First time in winter it was essentially perfect. This time was a different story. Ordered medium rare, got medium, au jus and steak were both extremely extremely salty. Almost inedibley salty. Points for not giving me an allergic reaction, but prime rib is pretty safe anyways.
Price: Mostly expensive. Sandwichs are not a bad deal (they're big), but my prime rib was ~$29. For 29 dollars I expect my prime rib to be absolutely perfect. Look at other items on the menu, pasta dishes around $18, wings a dollar each, some appetizers are very expensive. I understand that to have these kinds of quality ingredients at this remote location is expensive, but that doesn't change the fact.
Service: Comes out to average. First time our server was perfect, most recently our server was never refilling our drinks, and forgot some items we ordered and we had to remind her.
Atmosphere: Above average. I like the 3 distinct dining areas that can cater to whatever experience you prefer. The loud, twilight zone esque bar and patio area, the warm log cabin themed main dining area, or the casual diner booths out front.
Overall: 4 out of 5. When in the area, I will definitely be coming back. Only reasons its not 5 is because of the extremely salty prime rib I got. Why didnt I complain and re-order you ask? With my food allergy its the safest item on the menu, and if you know how prime rib is prepared, its already seasoned and cooked ahead of time. That means the entire rib is going to be oversalted, can't really change it. Hopefully this does not...
Read moreHappy Acres Restaurant Never disappoints. Stopped in around 8:30pm this past weekend since luckily another local establishment was closing their kitchen at 8:00pm(on a Saturday!) when we stopped by ready to eat after running the entire 42++ mile Black Forest Trail that day. We were actually happy about our fate since Happy Acres Restaurant has always been a favorite of mine(and many) from Day One when visiting the Pine Creek Valley. As usual our server(Jen) was polite, personable and attentive for being so close to the 9:00 “kitchen closed” time. I had my usual Bison burger, medium rare and sweet potato wedges, and a side salad. The burger was perfectly cooked to medium rare standards and the sweet potato wedges were cut even thicker than I recalled. If you’ve never had them, please do. They are tops, by far, on my list. There was live music that night so the area near the bar was full. We decided to sit in the party room. This worked out fine since conversation would have bee a little strained due to the band playing. I like to recommend places that serve food that is quality done and where you are treated with a smiling, friendly server. This is why I return often even when it’s a few extra miles. It’s just worth...
Read moreHappy Acres has a great atmosphere, and a nice bar located in a very off the beaten path area next to Little Pine State Park campground. The food was acceptable, the dinners we purchase were: prime rib, spaghetti, and a ham dinner. Of the three the ham dinner was the best. Prime rib was ordered medium but came slightly over cooked, not a deal breaker, but the aujus sauce tasted as if it was made from bullion cubes which took away from the prime rib rather than enhancing it. It took 45 minutes for a table of 6 dinners to arrive, the troubling part was the spaghetti dinner was served for some reason 10 minutes prior to the other dinners coming out. The restaurant seemed to have plenty of staff, although several tables were occupied but they should have been by no way overwhelmed from customers present. Hopefully the help was just new to the job and they will find their way as they go along. Again nice environment I will probably try again hoping for a lityle...
