Few years ago I was driving wrecker for my brother D & D towing & recovery throw little sum in sum in for my brother but I saw this place n I stopped cause I love a good home made hot tamale but I saw picture of Doris n back in early 90's that Mrs Doris drove to Gulfport every Friday I worked at Deas tire company now Delta world on 25th Ave downtown Gulfport I questioned employee there turn out be her daughter sh said her mom had passed but she kept it going using same everything n justike I remembered they are really really good so just so everybody know u want hot tamales that are like awesome n made right there I give it the biggest thumbs up like for real people try it I'm sure u will agree I live in Gulfport don't drive wrecker no more don't get over there lot but when I do I go get my dozen to go try save some for home but they never make it they disappear somehow anyway I highly recommend u try them they are the bomb I went by there other day all way Biloxi I was I got stop get my tamales n it was Monday that sucked cause they were closed haven't had time go back yet but I'm going one day this week get my tamale fix been on my mind...
Read moreThe resturant is a small, brightly painted shack where your food is served out the window. They have one picnic table with an umbrella to eat under. They do not serve beverages but have a vending machine on premises. Near by a gas station sells other drinks and has two single person bathrooms. It really is more of a grab and go style than an eat-in but if you don't mind a little standing room and friendly conversation eat outside. Details aside, the tamales are traditional beef and absolutely delicious, wrapped individually and again in newspaper, they also cost about a dollar a peice. We stopped on our way to the beach in Biloxi and could not be more thrilled with the food and service we received. The staff member inside was very polite and friendly in a small town way. This style is Mississippi Delta style and the masa is not fluffy and steamed ... it is moist and the tamales are rolled in their little paper sleeves and simmered in a red chili broth, then plucked from said broth and rolled in newspaper to keep them hot to take home. The broth does not come with the tamales, so I asked and the nice lady was gracious enough to give me some in a little cup. I added some hot sauce just to "make sure" and we were good to go. We were visiting the area and stayed a few days, making a point to visit Doris' Hot Tamales. My husband missed having them from his childhood in Baton Rouge with his grandfather.
