We stopped at Samurai in D’Iberville during happy hour (2:30–5:00 PM) and were really impressed with the food and prices. The parking lot was packed when we arrived at 4:30, which seemed odd since it was early for dinner. The restaurant wasn’t completely full, so we didn’t have to wait for a table, but it was very busy. Once we got our food, it was clear why—good prices and great-tasting food make this place a winner.
California Roll - $6.75 (Happy Hour: $4.95). Uramaki with crab stick, avocado, and cucumbers
Salmon Roll - $6.75 (Happy Hour: $4.95). Hosomaki with salmon
Salmon Avocado Roll - $7.20 (Happy Hour: $4.95). Uramaki with salmon and avocado
Salmon Mango Roll - $7.20 (Happy Hour: $4.95). Uramaki with salmon and mango. This was so good we ordered another. The mango was very sweet and blended perfectly with the salmon.
Alaska Roll - $7.20 (Happy Hour: $4.95). Uramaki with smoked salmon, avocado, cucumbers, and smelt roe.
Snow Crab Salad - $8.95 (Happy Hour: $4.95). Very flavorful and not overly dressed. Served with sweet pickled cucumbers (very sweet and acidic), asparagus, avocado, and smelt roe.
Seaweed Salad - $5.45 (Happy Hour: $4.95). Good texture, not overly dressed, and had a nice sesame oil flavor.
Agedashi Tofu - $5.95 (Happy Hour: $4.95). Delicate with a good tofu flavor and a thin crispy crust. Served piping hot and very enjoyable.
BBQ Squid Steak - $13.95. Great flavor with slight charring while being tender and having just the right amount of chew.
The sushi rolls were well made, and the rice had decent flavor and texture. The salmon mango roll was so good we ended up ordering another.
Overall, Samurai impressed us with its quality, prices, and flavor. The combination of affordable happy hour specials and tasty food makes it a must-stop when driving through Mississippi on I-10. It is conveniently located in the same parking lot as a Tesla...
Read moreMe and my Boyfriend decided to venture from Sumos Hibachi Steakhouse and try this restaurant. We were welcomed at the door and immediately seated at a booth for dine-in during lunch. Waitress came immediately and asked for drinks or requests for appetizers (we got sweet teas & Crab cheese puffs) both fresh and delicious! I asked questions about menu items and they were answered politely. My boyfriend ordered chicken/shrimp hibachi (no soup, salad with house dressing, fried rice). I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box (egg-drop soup, salad with house dressing, fried rice). Soup (Egg-drop) was disgusting, not only did the soup taste like grease and metal you could see the oil that sat on the top. The salad was like most hibachi restaurants house dressing being a ginger dressing (definitely had fresh ginger and a paste texture) that’s up to preference if you like a more sour ginger flavor. Now to the main entrees; fried rice also tastes like grease for both plates, his shrimp was undercooked, vegetables were steamed and NOT “hibachi cooked”! My chicken teriyaki for my order wasn’t what I expected (waitress & manager said they teriyaki dishes aren’t cooked in teriyaki just grilled then covered in teriyaki sauce) my chicken didn’t have a grilled texture and it was absolutely DRENCHED in teriyaki sauce that tasted like one you could purchase at a store. My entree came with vegetables (a single steamed broccoli & piece of carrot was given) gyoza (2 fried gyoza that was sitting in sauce that should have been on the side because the gyoza was soggy) and finally a egg roll (egg roll was fried in I’m guessing old grease and was cold on the inside, once again I could buy at Walmart). Overall definitely not worth the cost and highly recommend trying a different hibachi restaurant. Service was extremely good, however we did go during lunch when there was barely...
Read moreUPDATE: What happened to the ramen broth???? The portion off noodles to broth ratio... also the soup was sooo salty and still the seaweed was not cooked all.the way.
I was happy to see that the Agedashi Tofu did come with katsuobushi (dried Bonito flakes) and the space on.the side this time... good job! Tempura was great not oily!!! Perfect! But honestly... bell pepper tempura isn't a thing... and kind of gross. Still at a 3 but with minor improvements can be better.
Okay... let's see. I have ate at almost every Japanese restaurant in the area. And being that I AM JAPANESE FROM OKINAWA. I think I know what I'm talking about as far as Japanese cooking goes. So let's start!! MENU: Great options, fair pricing, lunch and happy hour available. FOOD: The sushi, sashimi/poke bowl was good. Nice portion of food, beautiful presentation and fresh. The Tonkotsu Ramen, the broth... AMAZING!!!! For me, should have been more broth and the noodles were way over cooked. The Wakame (seaweed) was under cooked so it wasn't very pleasant. But I will give it another try. Bcz the broth 😋!!! Yummy! Agedashi Tofu was perfectly and very lightly fried. Should serve with DRY Bonito flakes and allow the patron to dip tofu if desired. That's just my opinion. Makes for a better presentation for sure. Tempura was way too oily... but again, could've just been a bad batch 🤷🏻♀️. I gave a 3 out 5 bcz there can definitely be room for improvement. And I will update. Ps. To the Samurai owners... I'm always available to...
