Satchmo's Jazz Cafe — Restaurant in D'Iberville

I gotta say I just moved here from Nashville (Music City) which is Rich in many types of music. Since I've been here I've been looking for a place like this. People think Nashville is all country. It's not. In Nashville there are clubs on every corner with decent music of all kinds and great service. In the few months I've been here I havent found ANYTHING that reminds me of home. However, tonight I went to Satchmo's. I am a shaved head white man. I brought 6 other (white) friends with me and in this Southern Miss town I couldn't have felt more at home in this Jazz venue than if I were at my own grandmother's house. We were the only whites in the house. To indicate our race should not be necessary, but in today's climate it is important to note that music lovers are music lovers. To us, Satchmo's was the perfect illustration of this...a true standard by which a GOOD world should be measured. Specifically, the "doorman" Mike was fun and engaging. Our waitress NiNi had the best grasp on service I've ever seen. The owner made a point to check on our table to be sure we were enjoying ourselves, and the man in the "DJ Booth" couldn't have been more accommodating in talking about music and recommending a good hat shop. I really enjoyed the music and food! The regular sax player is amazing and is worth going for alone! Then the food ensures your visit is perfect. The lack of the fifth star is due to a staff member, a bartender. She was rude and obnoxious at times to the other staff members that I noticed. She kept making nasty faces at them. It ruined part of the perfect ambience this place has! She also seemed more focused on doing her own thing and not her job. The rest of the staff were all friendly, hard working, and great at their jobs, helping make this a wonderful date night spot! I wish I remembered my young waitresses name but she excelled and made me want to come back (as long as that lady bartender...
