I was excited to come back to this particular restaurant, we used to stop here all the time back in the early 90s on the way to the cabin any I haven't been back since I was a kid. The restaurant itself has had some major updates and looks amazing with exceptionally clean bathrooms. The service was fast and extremely friendly! The food, is definitely not what I remember as a kid but maybe I only ate off the kids menu back then? Who knows. But in the way of "authentic Mexican" food, this isn't it. The menu is small but that's to be expected at a restaurant in a small town. We ordered the half nachos plate, it's massive, stick with the 1/4 order for two people! The chips themselves are amazing but they were layered with lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, crock pot Mexican style shredded chicken, pickled jalapenos and a few chopped tomatoes and tubes of sour cream on the side. Again huge portion, but lacking in flavor. My husband opted for a burger as the Mexican food options on the menu were very limited, he said it was alright but didn't feel he'd order it again. The kids had the chicken tenders and fries, those were actually really good! We both ordered margaritas on the rocks, they were decent but I think probably just a mix. Overall I'm glad I went back to revisit a childhood memory but I think I'll leave it at that.

Our service was awesome! I'll start with that. That and the chips warrants two stars. Our waitress was friendly and attentive! :) but in our opinion the food was awful. Shared chicken fajitas for $18 and they were probably the worst Mexican fajitas I've ever had in my life. The chicken was so rubbery, grisly, over processed and flavorless. Tasted like fake chicken. They were generous with their portion size for sure, the peppers and onions were good. The chips and cheese were also good! But honestly for a place that advertises "authentic Mexican" I was severely disappointed, this was very far from authentic. They also had No queso, and sour cream in individual packets. I won't be going back. Also appreciated the effort of making a margarita "spicy" for me, although I definitely did not expect it to be made with pickled jalapenos lol wish i would have been told that. I assumed a Mexican restaurant would have fresh jalapenos. But that's my bad for assuming.

I have driven by this place for years before stopping there for the first time. The fajita plate was easily big enough for 2, and cost $13.95. That pile of cheese in the picture was easily 1 cup or larger. It came with enough fresh veggies to make a salad, and 5 fajita shells. The BEST part, they were not stingy with the meat, unlike the big name restaurants (chilis, applebees, etc), and it was cooked exactly how I liked it! I saw some people order some nachos, they were easily stacked 6 inches high on the plate. The cheese curds were average, and so was the service. I don't freely give out 5 star ratings, but chico's really won me over with this dish. I highly recommend you try them, and I will be back. They are open Thursday through Sunday.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chico's Place Bar & Restaurante in Onamia, MN for supper. As the only rural Tex-Mex restaurant in the area, I was excited to try their offerings. Here's my review:

Ambience and Service: The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a friendly and attentive waitress. The overall atmosphere was welcoming, and the prompt service added to the positive experience. It's worth mentioning that Chico's Place is also a great spot to grab a beer or alcoholic beverage of your choice.

Food: While Chico's Place doesn't offer authentic Mexican cuisine, their American dishes were satisfying. I tried their half order of nachos, which turned out to be a generous portion size, perfect for sharing with two or more people. The quality of the food was good, and it was evident that they put effort into ensuring their dishes were enjoyable.

Timing: The time it took for my order to arrive at the table was average. It wasn't too long, but it also wasn't exceptionally quick. I appreciated that the kitchen maintained a decent pace without making me feel rushed.

Cleanliness and Parking: The restaurant was clean, which made for a comfortable dining experience. However, it's worth noting that the parking lot was dirt, which might not be ideal, especially during rainy or snowy weather. Additionally, during peak traffic hours, entering the restaurant might be a bit challenging due to the location.

Overall, Chico's Place Bar & Restaurante is a great local gem if you're in the mood for Tex-Mex or American cuisine in Onamia, MN. The friendly service, good food, and generous portions make it a worthwhile visit. Just keep in mind the dirt parking lot and potential difficulty during peak...

Great Mexican food my friend Dustin ordered chimichanga super! I was going to order that as well but decided on all u can eat shrimp for the FACT THAT A GUY next to us had it and wow it looked fantastic, well when I got mine didn't look anything like his his was large and light fluffy mine over cooked told the kid and he had a new order put in and came out the same I ate three and the scales were in there, terrible also the kid never mentioned I could get salad bar so unfortunately when I noticed that they were pulling it down and I didn't eat but couple of fries and the few shrimp I told him, he could have said would you like to order something else because I surely would have leaving hungry sucked... I bought six dollars worth of your candy bars, I was told he's was the owner's son idk I believe his name was Jesse I think I usually always look at name badges for names. I know he's a realtor and he was Dr endly just not customer service making a customer happy and not hungry leaving and lot mentioning the salad bar really made me upset. This place my friend lives as well as my daughter and this was my first time going to eat there. So, just saying other than that the other people's food wow looked delicious I was jealous. Thank you...Dawn...
