Subject: Cleats Restaurant, Marblehead – Mother’s Day Buffet Op (Revised Debrief) The deployment order stood: Mother's Day. Target: Cleats, Marblehead. My wife’s selection. Initial prognosis for these civilian mass-feeding exercises is usually grim. High probability of systemic failure and subpar provisions. Arrival and Staging Area: Lakeside town. Cleats presented as advertised: sports bar. Predictable acoustics – a dull roar. The primary objective, the Mother’s Day buffet, was already a hot zone. Civilian units, multiple generations, operating with varying degrees of situational awareness. Standard chaos for a designated family event. Buffet Line Integrity & Asset Evaluation: This is typically the first point of catastrophic failure. Cleats, however, maintained a semblance of control. The line advanced, not with military precision, but it moved. The critical element – the provisions. Here’s where the intel requires significant update. The ordnance, surprisingly, punched well above its weight class. Prime Rib: Or a damn good impersonation under battlefield conditions. Carved on site. Cooked to spec – retained color, wasn't a dried-out casualty of prolonged heat lamp exposure. A genuine asset to the spread. Seafood Selection (Baked Cod): Usually a high-risk gamble in a buffet setup. This was executed with unexpected precision. Flaky, not desiccated. Indicated someone in the kitchen knew their tradecraft. Standard Breakfast Array (Eggs, Bacon, etc.): Even these fundamental components demonstrated a higher level of preparation than anticipated for this type of engagement. Bacon was actually crisp. Scrambled eggs hadn't turned to rubber. Details. They matter. Salad Bar/Sides: Fresh. Well-stocked. Offered viable alternatives for those not engaging the heavier assets. This wasn’t just "mission capable"; the food was definitively above average for this class of operation. A pleasant tactical surprise. Personnel Performance (Service): This is where the situation was more… fluid. The staff were clearly dealing with a target-rich, resource-strained environment. Initial observation suggested potential for systemic breakdown under the holiday surge. Communication wasn't always seamless; saw a couple of near-misses on beverage redeployment, some of the greener recruits looked like they were taking on water. It wasn't a display of elite service. However, they didn’t collapse. The core team assigned to our sector, while not operating at the speed of a quick reaction force, adapted. Plates were eventually cleared without needing to deploy signal flares. Key requests were actioned, sometimes after a tactical pause for prioritization. They bent, they definitely flexed, but the line held. For the sheer volume they were processing, to keep things functional and avoid total meltdown, their performance clawed its way to above average. Not great, but better than the baseline expectation for such a chaotic theater. Overall Mission Outcome: The primary objective – ensuring domestic tranquility via the Mother’s Day offensive – was achieved with surprisingly high marks on the culinary front. Logistically, on the service end, Cleats’ team weathered the storm and delivered an outcome that surpassed low expectations. For a sports bar diving into the holiday buffet meatgrinder, Cleats delivered an unexpectedly effective package. Food was a clear win. Service, while showing strain, ultimately performed above the anticipated mean. Threat level: Contained. Outcome: Positive. My wife registered approval. That closes the file...
Read moreThere yesterday again as we go every time we are in Marblehead bc the food and service usually excellent. However this time our toothless waitress (yes no front teeth at all made us all lose our appetite a little) was rude from the first time we saw her 10 minutes after we sat down. I tried to tell her how to split the bill and got a hand in my face and told she did that at the end. Ok fine. Waited 10 more minutes to get drinks. She forgot 2. We were in a large party so still not too upset. Hour later one group in our party finally got their appetizer and was rudely told, "we'll you're the one that ordered chicken on it". Please know that another member never got their salad either as I'm sure it was difficult to make. Hour and 15 minutes later a member of our group inquired on where our food was as 3 tables around us with a different server had already gotten their food and were eating. The toothless server then decided to get in this customer's face about how we were gonna have to wait a little longer. ( she was finger pointing and all) so we asked to speak with the manager and she said she never gets complaints on this waitress and we later found out from another waitress that was completely false. Waited around probably 15 more minutes after we finished eating for the rude waitress to actually come back and offer us boxes after we had another get another waitress to get us refills. She made it a point to tell us that the other waitress had told her that she got us refills and thanked us for making sure that she didn't have to do it. Then she got another customer's face in our party because he did not want to speak to her from the way that she was acting and proceeded to go over in the corner to tell all the waitresses how ridiculous we all were as customers and she called us various names. At this point I get the manager again and tell her she should not have sent the waitress back over to our table in the first place after the first incident and this is poor management skills and should've got us another server. Please know on top of this some of our table couldn't even eat their food as the food was cold, burnt, or they just lost their appetite due to our server. The female manager didn't care and we told her that we refused to pay for the food/service we received. She said "fine" but made sure we saw her crying as we were leaving. What!? I will probably never go back to Cleats which is really sad because my kids love going there and our family has built a lot of memories there with friends as well. But from the condition of the restaurant, servers, and food I would guess that Cleats doesn't...
