Great food, great atmosphere, but overstaffed, and overpriced.
The Lobster Bisque was amazing. It had a good variety of large and small pieces of lobster which I’m pretty sure was real. If it was imitation meat, I couldn’t tell. We kept wishing that it came with some kind of soft bread so you could mop out the inside of the bowl when you were done. The perogies were good too. They were cooked to a perfect golden brown and they looked like they could have been homemade instead of frozen. Again, I could be wrong. I just wish they weren’t just potato-filled. Cheese, Onion, Mushroom, or even Spinach would have been great inside.
The service was good. Kim took good care of us. When she wasn’t waiting on us, she was keeping busy by folding napkins. We were sat immediately, and our drink and food orders came promptly. While most places are understaffed, this place seems to have the opposite problem. We were 1 of 3 tables I saw. Meanwhile, I counted 17 employees there. That's 5 people per table. There should be 1 server per section. I watched 3 employees bus 1 table that had nothing on it to be carried away. The one just had their hands on their hips. Others had their hands crossed in their lap and another was leaning against the wall.
The atmosphere and decor were amazing. Whoever designed the place knew what they were doing. Everything looked brand new, super clean, and fit the aesthetic and color scheme. Loved all the white, exposed wood, ropes, and the old photos.
Between the overhead for the overstaffing and what I can imagine is a construction debt to pay, I can see why 2 appetizers and some...
Read moreWe have dined here several times since they opened. We live in Avon lake but spend time in the Region. Great fresh well styled nautical decor and ….service has been consistently great and attentive each time. Drinks and desserts are consistent. However this last visit I tried the Jim Burger and was super disappointed. It really should have never been served. Two super dry black burned thin patties. Zero flavor due to the condition of the meat. Like hard rubber.
The restaurant was super busy at 4:47 on Saturday and a line had formed at the door, so I chose not to complain and instead enjoyed my big pile of fries and Lake Erie Maiden mocktail. In reality I should have asked for a discount as the servers could have seen the burger was barely eaten. But again., they were slammed so I opted not to. My hubby and son had the Cobb Salad and Perch Sandwich plus fried pickles, which were good.
I don’t know what great burger is in other photos or reviews, as this was really inedible and looked awful as well. I’ve had great smash burgers elsewhere so I know what to expect.
The staff mostly seems to really hustle to get things done and manage the crowds. If the garage door windows are not open due to weather it is crazy loud and noisy in there. So be prepared.
My most recent experience was the fault of kitchen staff and whoever takes responsibility for checking food before it is served. It shouldn’t be on the guest to wait for busy staff to come back to the table or to have to wait while an order is redone.
We’ve been there at off times and prime times….two very different...
Read moreIt’s been years since the first time i came up to ol lake erie with the kids and wife, we’ve seen the building abandoned for years and were ESTATIC to see a nice resturaunt being built in place of the unpleasant but intreguing building from the past! We visited the first year and were left satisfied but overall just more to desire, last year we never really got the chance to visit but saw what we later learned to know as “the cove” first being set up. This past month our middle daughter asked if we could go back, as we were hungry after a day at the beach. We said sure why not! As we walked in you could tell the staff was working hard to make sure the place was running smoothly! The girl at the front door was sweet and made sure to squeeze us in a table as quick as she could! as we waited for our server, a young man named cameron dropped some coasters and got us drinks as I guess our server was held up. he was a funny guy and my kids couldn’t get enough!! he noticed one of the kids liked a show he did, and you could tell he was just having a good time at his job! he told us a bit about the origins of the place and the backstory, Andy and Gina (who we got to meet late that night)! cam and server sarah both seemed incredibly passionate about the resturaunt and making sure our family felt at home in Reds! Sarah introduced us to the lovely cove by our table and after eating the kids played tag on the turf while me and the wife talked with cameron about future plans and more! Food was amazing and service was remarkably better!! Could not...
