The Still Restaurant & Cocktail Bar — Restaurant in Danville

First off, let me say that our service was excellent. The wait staff was prompt, professional, and attentive. The atmosphere is classy and comfortable, though seating is limited. Unfortunately, this restaurant falls far short of what it wishes to portray itself as. It poses as an upscale Brazilian bar/grill, but... There's a strange lack of Brazilian food. Most of the menu is made up of Cuban cuisine with some Honduran and Caribbean for good measure. I ordered the empanadas plate, which consisted of 4 pastries each about the size of a wonton, half a cup of rice, and about a tablespoon of black beans. $13.50 if I remember. The empanadas tasted great! I just wish there were more, or they cost less. My biggest complaint would be the beans and rice though. There is absolutely no excuse for a restaurant to be this stingy with the only side it offers, especially if that side is something as inexpensive as rice and beans. On top of that, the beans had no taste at all, like, not even salt. Overall, the food just does not stand up to the price. The portions are meager, and the kitchen is unforgivably slow (our meal took almost 90mins from seating to check). The cocktail prices seem fair, though we did not order drinks this time.

TLDR: Though the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, it lacks convincing Brazilian cuisine and suffers from unsatisfactory portions and over inflated prices. Slow kitchen service causes unnecessary frustration. Lots of potential, but changes will...

I struggle between one and two stars.... extremely underwhelming experience. When asked for drink order the waiter says they are out but they can brew some more. Sounds great....fresh tea is usually good tea. But no, it was very weak. Pretty much tasted like sugar water with a subtle tea aftertaste. And it came well over 30 minutes later. The appetizer came out...the calamari was breaded perfectly and it was cooked to perfection. But then the two sauces were beyond gross. One was what resembled YumYum sauce and the other was some extremely sweet tomato jam with either nutmeg or cardamom. We decided to order entrees and I ordered a hamburger...but there was no hamburger to be cooked. should have told me that 20 minutes ago. My main dish came and the scallops were sweet and delicious....cooked perfectly. But the pasta they were on was bland and had too many onions (I know that's a personal preference, but the flavor of the dish shouldn't depend on onions) My wife got the fish tacos and one was bland and one was good which was odd because they looked exactly the same. The final thing that really ended it all on a poor note was when the waiter asked how everything was and we told him how weak the tea was, he went and asked the manager if he could give a discount and she said No. You can't comp a glass of weak sweet tea, that shouldn't be $3 to begin with?????? Great atmosphere and incredible service! I went here on a Saturday for a date night and it was a perfect experience. I loved that The Still offered non-alcoholic mocktails in addition to their alcoholic beverages, as I currently cannot partake but still wanted a fancy drink! The Aged Cheddar Cheese and tomato basil dip appetizer were mind-blowing delicious... I could have ordered another and just had that for dinner. I opted for The Still burger with fries and it was flavorful and cooked to the doneness I requested. My husbands NY Strip Steak with blue cheese potato salad was incredible, he always shares a taste with me... I could have devoured his whole plate as well; so good! He also had the Blue Rook Cachaca Flight which was a tremendous deal at only $5 and offered a half pour of four of their own spirits. We did get both desserts they currently had on the menu, a Warm banana bread pudding and a Dry stack espresso tart with raspberries. The banana bread pudding was so tasty I will be looking for a copycat recipe once I finish this review, same for the blue cheese potato salad! All in all, a wonderful experience.
