The hunt for good Indian restaurants is always on and this one we happened to stumble upon just because we were in the area and there was no time to go home and cook.
The reviews looked splendid with over a 1000 people talking about the dishes we happened to try as well. The place comes a close second when comparing their dosas but the gravy and rice dishes didn’t hit the mark for us.
The service is quick, the place is massive, the restrooms were left unattended, the wash basin was pitiful. The water just wouldn’t drain. Nonetheless, the food was between very good and good.
Podi Dosa: Perfect amount of masala (spices), decent sized chutneys and sambhar. The dosa is crispy, light, airy, and works as a great appetizer if shared.
Goat Dum Biryani: Kinda lacked the punch we were looking for. The masala didn’t quite blend with the rice, the rice was way too salty for our palette, the fried onions were as good as none, and the meat was more bones than meat itself. The staff Rachna and Pratik were kind enough to have it replaced with Chicken Biryani. However, this biryani was even lesser masala and packed with plain rice. The chicken was thinly shaved and we didn’t enjoy it half as much. We appreciate the effort though.
Chicken Tikka Masala: The gravy was well balanced. The tomatoes and onions were cooked to perfection and the chicken sizes were perfect. If I had to pick on a small grievance I wish they were charred more. Given it’s tikka masala and not butter chicken.
Naans: We got the garlic naan and the plain naan. Both of them were cooked well and tasted fresh. We’ve been to restaurants that serve frozen naans and you can certainly tell these weren’t cooked the same.
Persis Indian Grill you definitely did great with your customer service but alas the food didn’t quite live up to our...
Read moreI recently visited the newly renovated Persis Indian Grill in O'Fallon, MO, and I must say, it’s a fantastic transformation! The updated interior feels modern, yet still warm and inviting, with rich colors, sleek furnishings, and a comfortable atmosphere that makes it perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions.
The menu remains as impressive as ever, with a wide variety of traditional and contemporary Indian dishes. I started with the Samosa Chaat—a flavorful combination of crispy samosas topped with tangy chutneys and yogurt. It was a great appetizer to begin the meal.
For the entrée, I had the Butter Chicken, which was rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced. The chicken was tender and the sauce had the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. I paired it with their fluffy garlic naan, which was fresh out of the oven and absolutely delicious and for dessert I have Junnu which was an Indian Sweet Tastes amazing
The service was friendly and attentive, and it’s clear the staff has been trained to provide a seamless dining experience. One standout feature post-renovation is the improved lighting, which enhances the ambiance without being too bright or harsh. It adds a sense of elegance to the dining area.
Overall, the renovation has really elevated the experience at Persis Indian Grill. The combination of excellent food, upgraded ambiance, and attentive service makes this place a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Indian cuisine in the O'Fallon area. Whether you’re a regular or a first-time visitor, you’ll leave satisfied and eager...
Read moreIm a huge fan of chicken tikka kebab. Anytime I go to a new Indian restaurant that’s what I get. Everywhere does theirs a little bit differently so it’s always a bit of a surprise. I just can’t get enough of that tender, succulent, yogurt marinated chicken. Unfortunately I’m cursed with the cilantro plague. For me, and people like me, it utterly and completely destroys everything it touches. I ordered the chicken tikka kebab like I do at every Indian restaurant. “Spicy with no cilantro”. When it arrived at my table it was almost as if a prank had been played on me. There couldn’t possibly have been any more cilantro on this chicken. I will say, however, that when I asked the waiter for no cilantro I’m 90% certain he had no idea what I meant due to a mild language barrier situation. I can’t fault the restaurant for this, it’s just an honest misunderstanding. It’s my own cilantro intolerance that’s the problem. Aside from the unwanted herb, the chicken itself was decent quality but it was a smidge dry and the marinade did not adequately permeate the meat leaving it more on the bland side. Everyone else with whom I was eating loved their meals. They got the classic curry and butter chicken dishes. They were all very pleased. For me, ignoring the cilantro, the chicken just wasn’t up to par with other Indian restaurants. For reference, my all time favorite spot for tikka kebab is Flavors Indian Cuisine in Des Peres which is my highest rating ever - 9.7/10 clucks. This place gets 5.9/10 clucks. Come here for their other dishes. Very...
