First went here shortly after it opened as Not Your Average Joe’s when Providence Journal did a food review and it became one of our favorite restaurants. We recommended it to many people and took many there. When they expanded to Dedham we took people from Weston Ma there. Our lives became complicated and Covid hit. This past June we visited at the Cape and decided to go to one of our favorite restaurants. Much to our surprise, the name was changed but we enjoyed the food as much as before. Tonight we made the trip from Providence RI to Original Joe’s and was surprised to see many open chairs inside and out but we were early. Around 5pm. We were seated and waited for waitress . And waited. Robin finally addressed us, gave us menus and took drink orders. We waited again for drinks. We saw people come in after us and be served drinks before Robin showed u with our drinks. Then we waited again for crab cakes and crabmeat sandwich. When she showed up again, we had to ask for dessert menus and she disappeared again. Finally took our order and came prompt with dessert and gave the bill. She wasn’t actually in the restaurant in her head but was elsewhere. I blame the restaurant but my husband could see all other waitresses working their butts off so may be she needed additional training or to be fired. I took into consideration all the problems restaurants are having getting anyone to staff so I did take that into consideration but I believe Robin needs more training or let go! I have always loved this restaurant and preferred it to the Seekonk location but in light of tonight I will have to wait for an answer from Joe on...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Joe’s Original on 12/26/24. We had a reservation for 7 PM. We arrived a little early, around 6:50 PM. We were told that they were running a little behind because “people are taking their time and talking a lot at their tables before leaving.” We understood and waited patiently to begin. However, around 7:20 PM we were still not seated. Despite tables seeming to be cleared. We then started to notice that larger parties who had arrived after us (after 7 PM) were being seated before us. I then decided to approach the front end staff to ask about the wait and was given a fairly terse response of “We’re behind, we have reservations before you that we’re still trying to seat. I can seat people, but I can’t make people leave.” After reviewing Joe’s Originals policies it does state that for parties of seven or more there is a 2.5 hour time limit. So, yes you do have the ability to tell parties that it’s time to leave. At that point, you are allowing parties that are seated and have already finished their meals to continue to sit and talk and disrespect the time of those of us who have reservations. At that point we cancelled our reservation and went to a different restaurant. We originally hoped to eat by 7:30, but were unable to eat until well after 8 PM that night. The service by the front end staff as well as the response was terrible and continued to allow others to disrespect the time of those folks who had existing...
Read moreI certainly enjoyed my food here. For an appetizer I got a tuna wonton, I'm not a huge fan of fish, but I have to say, it wasn't bad. For my entree I got their backyard burger and it came quickly, I was very pleased with the presentation, and it smelled delicous. When I sunk my teeth into it, I was greeted by a slightly burnt outside, and peering closer to the burger, it was a solid brown color, though I had ordered medium well. Surprisingly, the burger was pretty juicy and had a decent flavor. Overall, it was decent.
The waitstaff was extremely kind and we had a wonderful time. My drink, a Shirley Temple, was mixed through, and as some may know, they aren't always properly mixed through, this was very pleasing. As was the large number of marachino cherries! At least 7 or 8. As silly as it may be, I think a restaurant is that much better when you have more cherries than 1 or 2.
Furthermore, thw staff was very friendly to me, not in a creepy way though, they asked me questions about where I go to school and about my favorite thing to study. The conversation wasn't at all forced, and by the end of the night, our server knew my name.
Overall, this is a great place that I would visit again! If you are looking for a place with great food and atmosphere for you and your kids, or maybe your significant other, go here! Y'all are going to be treated like family and leave happy and full. Although, a downside is you may have to have a friend roll you...
