I've been to the Moline Steel Plow location and enjoyed their burgers on a few occasions. And their pretzels...and their shakes. I really like Steel Plow in Moline. I was not living in the Quad Cities when Steel Plow announced the opening of the Davenport location (was it around 2019? 2020? wasn't here either way) but recently saw them pop up on a Google Maps search. It was now time to try the location on my side of the Mississippi!
I don't know if it actually is bigger, but the Davenport location seems much larger than the Moline restaurant. The whole restaurant is bisected into a dining room area and a bar area, with a further door leading out to a sizeable patio space. The floor throughout is a bronze colored concrete slab. bluish grey walls line the exterior with occasional large, old pictures of farm equipment or people using the farm equipment. The ceiling area contains an open plenum featuring wooden rafters and suspended light fixtures throughout. It's new and clean, not too noisy - on the whole I like the space.
I opted to sit alone at the bar today to dine. The bartender quickly had my drink order and gave me a menu. I opted for a burger and fries, in this case Brian's Firehouse Burger with waffle fries. This was out to me quickly - probably within 10-15 minutes. The burger was fantastic - it was spicy (as expected, given the pepperjack cheese, jalapenos and hot sauce) and was done to the medium well I ordered it to. The fries were similarly great - crisp and fluffy, as a good waffle fry should be.
I want to come back here at a later date to try one of the shakes separately. I remember them being really great in Moline, plus they looked great on the menu (too full this trip for dessert, though). I look forward to more burgers in this location in the future, as well....
Read moreWe stopped here on our way through to Chicago based on some reviews we saw that said the burgers were excellent. We all completely agreed! Three of us ordered the special of the day, which was a smashburger and fries for $7.50, and it came with your standard toppings. Everyone was very satisfied. They came with fried melted cheese! The fries were basic standard fries, but still good.
My son had the patty melt, and said that was very very good. I had the " Mr Anderson's Burger" with the BBQ on the side. I don't normally like burgers with the BBQ on them, however, I always order it on the side so I can try it. This time it was excellent with the sauce on it. I would highly recommend the burger, with or without the BBQ sauce on it. I also ordered the waffle fries, which were your standard seasoned waffle fries. They were very good though.
We looked at the ice cream for a long time, and decided it was a bit out of our price range at $17 for one shake. They look amazing, but we just can't spend that much on a single shake (more than our meals), even if we shared it. So I can't say if they were any good, but I imagine they...
Read moreEverything was delicious! This was my first visit. I brought my mom for her birthday because I heard good things and saw amazing pics of the food, primarily the brilliant shakes! We ordered and shared three different items: a burger (the "Midwest"), mac-n-cheese (the "pizza"), and, of course the birthday cake shake at the end. Each item was tasty, fresh, just the right texture, just the right flavor, just the right temperature, just the right blend of ingredients. And, if that wasn't enough, we were able to get the "five sampler" of fries with the burger - at no extra charge. And if that wasn't enough, the portion was still amazing, and each fry type (yes, there are five to choose from) was amazing! Yum! Yum! Yum! Our waitress was a delight (Justice) and very helpful with suggestions!! And, if that wasn't enough, the atmosphere was nice and they have outdoor seating. If you've never been add it to your list. The presentation alone should spark your curiosity. It did mine. We drove an hour just to get there and it was worth...
