We had breakfast with a purpose at The Breakfast Nook. This place is amazing! This restaurant, farm, & catering business is a live and work environment opportunity for emerging young adults to learn through on the job training to become independent through real life experiences, guided by mentors and life coaches. 💙💛👏🏻😲😍 These amazing people are doing amazing things. The staff was very friendly and my breakfast burrito was yummy and made with their own farm fresh ingredients. Talking with Mike the owner was the highlight of my day. Getting to hear about his business model and how his main objective was just to teach these young people life skills with love and hard work.

We had a delicious breakfast at the Breakfast Nook this morning...fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, biscuits and homemade sausage gravy, eggs, hash brown and meats. Most foods are locally grown/raised and they were cooked to perfection. Our server, Taylor, was so sweet, efficient and attentive! The Breakfast Nook serves "food with a purpose" meaning that they support young adults learning life skills...great mission! Added bonus, they have a newish outdoor patio so we were able to bring the dog. Highly recommend this sweet place for a wonderful homecooked breakfast!

We came here for lunch early one Saturday morning in early April 2021. It is cash only (but they have an atm inside), so keep that in mind before you come. It is a small place that serves an amazing purpose. We ordered breakfast for four, and everything was amazing: biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches, and pancakes. The bacon is local so we bought two pounds on the way out too. Highly recommended for breakfast.

The first issue was asking for a glass of water along with coffee. The waitress brought a commercial plastic bottle of water, when I asked if I could just have a glass of tap water, she said no. literally every restaurant in the US will give you a glass of water with a meal. I didn’t ask the price of a bottle of water, but I can only guess its probably at least 3 dollars. My friend and I both ordered the 4 dollar cup of coffee (a bit higher then Starbucks prices). When the coffee arrived, it was luke-cold. The waitress apologized and said the coffee pot was put on a cold burner, okay fair, mistakes can happen. New hot cups were brought which was when we realized the coffee was very-very weak. I mean maybe ½ the strength of what Id consider a normal or average strength coffee. When the food was brought out, my friend ordered a breakfast (egg and cheese) sandwich, and after one bite explained she couldn’t eat it. Im not 100% sure why, but it looked very soggy and the English muffin didn’t look toasted at all (The sandwich definitely did not look very appetizing). Rather than complaining or ordering something else she did end up eating a few more bites, and left at least half uneaten. We had some granola in the car, she said she’ll be fine. I had pancakes which tasted good, but they were very small. I’m more used to pancakes often being so large that I can not consume it all, but these pancakes were embarrassingly small, like 5-6” across. I had opted for the Maple syrup upgrade for an extra 2.00, but the small plastic container was maybe half filled and I’d guess about 1.5 ounces of maple syrup. It covered 3-4 bits of the pancakes. I asked for more syrup, but did not ask if Id be charged again. My friend was buying and I chose not to look at the bill, but Id bet I was charged another 2.00 for the additional very small cup of maple syrup. Lastly when paying we heard that they restaurant wouldn’t accept plastic and pointed to a sign that was indeed posted (we didn’t see it) and then pointed to an ATM machine if needed. I don’t know… maybe it’s just me, but the nickel-and-diming was a real turn off for us both. I travel for work and eat-out a LOT all over this country, and I was surprised at the Breakfast nook was so chinsy on a number of counts. What sort of establishment doesn’t accept a credit or debit card these days? Some people don't even carry cash anymore (me). Your milage may vary, but I'm sure there are much better choices. I mean its breakfast, come on... how can you mess up breakfast? The food is too expensive (for what it is), coffee no good, cant get a glass of water, the syrup must be made from gold, no CC for payment is a serious inconvenience specially if you are unprepared to pay in other ways. I would NOT eat at the Breakfast Nook if there was any...

This place is small, but that's not the problem. They have a nice mission statement about hiring people to help then get back on their feet, etc. And that's great, but management is terrible and they are super negative. The server was good and really trying, but all of the management seemed to be bothered that there were people in the restaurant ( not the older lady, she was sweet). The cook could be heard complaining about how busy they were and berating the servers left and right for putting in orders that he didn't like. Couldn't believe that one person could order 5 eggs, and got infuriated whenever someone tried to customize a breakfast, (like ask for no cheese on their burrito.) A guy came in and they wouldnt let him order anything other than sandwiches, and was told it would be 15 or 20 mins, 2 mins later, he asked to change one of the sandwiches from bacon to ham, and he was told he couldn't becaue he already put it in and the cook was mad at the servers. I've never been somewhere and felt so awkward, for myself and the employees, who you could tell the negativity was wearing down. The people beside us at the bar said the same thing, and their daughter even said she felt scared for the staff because the cook was so belligerent... additionally, my food was good, but my fiancé got sick from her non customizable burrito. I feel there was a lot of promise here, but they aren't doing anyone any favors or lifing anyone up by being negative, angry and treating their staff like that. They had 12 people sit down at once, in three different groups, and that made the cook go into the weeds... if you can stand the fire, stay out of the kitchen. I've seen waffle house cooks get slammed with 20 orders at a time (customized as well) and just roll with it. This cook needs to find a new profession or sell his business. Do yourself a favor and go to the restaurant at the lodge 3 mins away, or ride into Davis, just 10 mins...

We arrived just before 10am, sign and Google say hours are 7-11am. A guy comes out a side door as we are walking up and says they are closed. So my friend walks over to that door to ask their hours so we might come the next day. A different man tells her they are open. So we went inside (worst mistake ever). We sat down and the waitress is immediately rude. Says what do you want to drink in a very bothered tone. My friend orders coffee, waitress doesn't ask if she wants creamer or nothing just walks off. My friend had to ask several times for creamer, so the waitress finally brings it and throws the spoon on the table at my friend. At this point we should have just left, our mistake. My friend orders waffles, the response is we don't have any. So we order French toast. I ask if it comes with fruit, get a nasty no, ask if they have blueberries, yes, can I add them, she walks away, comes back says the cook says no. The French toast was absolutely horrible! Neither of us took more than three bites of it. We get the check and she had charged for two coffees. We point it out, she apologizes but doesn't take it off the bill. So I point it out again. She storms off then comes back with the money and says here. Clearly they don't care about pretending to have any customer service what so ever. That was abundantly clear from the nasty attitude as well as the horrible food. Save yourself the time and money, you will get better service and food in a...
