This place lives up to its rather descriptive name. It is what one pictures when one thinks of the classic small town American Diner. It is a haven for comfort food. From the simplicity of the edifice to the no-frills, hometown, 1960's appearance of the dining room, this place is a throwback...in a good way.
We stopped here because it was on our route. It looked like a good, solid choice based on the description and the reviews. And it looked like a choice that was not too expensive. The location was truly roadside on US 322. The exterior appearance was certainly not elegant, but the building was in good shape. The interior was a bit cozy, and the layout was significantly longer than it was deep as you would expect with a small, hometown diner. The decor and furnishings were simple, though certainly adequate.
We were seated right away. The service was very good as our server attended to us right away. She was very efficient and our food was delivered rather quickly after our order.
The menu offered classic mid-Atlantic American comfort fare. Items such as burgers, a variety of sandwiches, pork chops, baked ham and liver and onions were featured. My wife opted for a basic BLT accompanied by chips, which was quite good. I chose the Baked Fish with mashed potatoes and a starter salad. I thought it was tasty though I'd definitely recommend a bit of tartar sauce to go with the fish. We're both watching calories and these were great options for that.
The value was excellent. The final bill with food, drink, tax and tip was $13.00 per person. I would try this place again if...
Read moreHad the lunch special beer battered fried fish. It was incredible: very crispy on the outside, soft and flaky on the inside. The mac n cheese portion was huge and the cole slaw delicious. My lunch mate had the chef salad which was served on a platter sized plate. The veggies were fresh, crunchy, the meat was shaved and appealing and the dressing delicious. All this for 22.00 which included drinks. Will definitely come back here. The server was excellent and very attentive. This is a small place made smaller by Covid19 seating but very nice. I want to try the many deserts they have! They look yummy. Bathroom was very nice as well. Top...

After all the years of visiting my dads family this was my first time ever going to the American Diner and let me tell you there was no disappointment at all!!! The food, hospitality, service and even the quaint small town atmosphere was at its highest. It is definitely in mine and my families opinion a perfect go to if you want great home cooked food without doing it yourself. Can’t wait to go back and visit and have a great meal with my family. Whether your passing through or live in the area don’t miss out on...
