This past Saturday, my company went for our holiday party, my boss who also owns another business hosted that holiday party a week prior. They had a great time and they said the food was great! Our company is of a different demographic, a mix of cutlures and races, not like the other business made up of white females with a couple males whom are in charge of deliveries. On Saturday we had to wait for our table, it wasn't ready, it only took a few minutes which was fine. We went to the table and the waiter started our drink order, she also asked for ID from everyone from the table. Then she came to a 58 year old woman who is like our grandmother, she did not have her ID, which she left in the car, Saturday the 14 was pretty nasty out with the rain. The waiter refused to serve her an adult beverage. We spoke with two managers, the first explained it was state law and even offered to go into the womans car search through her purse and wallet and get her ID for her(?). Well my boss then asked to speak to another mananger, who then came up (Nick) and looked at my boss and said "heard you wanted to speak to someone else?" didn't offer his name or position until my boss asked for it. There were a few others that did not have ID's, they clearly were under the age of thirty or appeared to be, the ones who did not have their ID did not drink, and the resturant was absolutley correct in not serving them that beverage. This woman is 58! She has a bad hip and it was rainning outside clearly the mananger should have used discretion when approaching this situation. Check the identification of any patron who is not absolutely, positively, of legal drinking age- this statement was in the State website for drinking and verification of age...she clearly, absoulutely, positively of drinking age. When we walked in from the beginning we all sensed a vibe that was a little uneasy, the servers were not personable, they had attitudes that gave everyone there the impression that we were a bit of a bother. Our entire party got up and left and took our business else were. The other establishment verified IDs expect for our friend who is clearly of age to drink. I attended the other holiday party that my boss hosted at Cappers and Lemons the previous week, I am 27 but look like I could be under the age, not one server OR bartender verified anyones ID when requesting an alcoholic drink. Like I said before we brought a crowd of different races and ethinic back grounds, and feel like we were discriminated against because of that. I would not say this if we did not have that party the previous week with a group of white female women, clearly of a weathier status. This resturaunt had great food, but POOR service. I will NEVER return to this place and will tell EVERYONE I know and come in contact with that this place has horrible...
Read moreI went here on a Sunday evening with my boyfriend. He ordered the entree size of the Eggplant "Lasagna." Before ordering, he asked our waitress what the difference was between the appetizer size and the entree size, and the waitress held her hands up to show how big the lasagnas were, and said with the entree you get two plus a side of spinach. When his entree came back, we almost sent it back because it was only one piece. Nope, it was indeed two square probably 2.5inch x 2.5inch pieces of lasagna. We could not believe how small his dinner was. I ordered the Cavatelli Cacciatore which is described on the menu as "braised chicken, mushrooms, roasted pepper, onions, parmigiano." It came and I began eating it, and quickly realized it had NO chicken in it. How do you forget the chicken in a chicken dish?! I folded my hands and rested my chin on my hands to show I was not eating, and made eye contact with our waitress THREE TIMES before she finally came back over to see how everything was. In that time, my boyfriend had to completely stop eating because he would have been done his tiny dinner way before I even got mine. The manager came out with my fixed dinner, which was a noticeably smaller portion than the first time around, and said sorry. I ate about half and asked for the rest in a to-go box because my boyfriend had finished his then-cold dinner way before I could.
Our waitress and the manager were very pleasant. I understand that mistakes are made, that's fine. I'm not a terror - I laughed it off and got it fixed. My problem lies in 1. how much the just-ok food cost (seriously, I wouldn't say this is any better than Olive Garden, it's just not as oily), and 2. We weren't offered a free dessert, a discount, or anything, for having my meal be so messed up. I can NOT believe we paid $18 for the Eggplant "Lasagna" and $19 for my Cavatelli Cacciatore. We won't...
Read moreWe went here for Mother's Day for the first time. We have been to their sister restaurant Taverna a few times and were anxious to try Capers & Lemons based on those good experiences.
The restaurant is beautiful inside. Definitely a bit more upscale but very approachable. We were seated right in line with our reservation time. Despite being a very busy day our server was right over to assist us.
For appetizers we had the meatballs and calamari. Both were excellent. The meatballs were flavorful with a perfect density. The calamari had a light coating that stayed intact through the process. I normally prefer marinara with calamari but the lemon sauce worked really well this meaty calamari. A couple of us had Caesar salads which were enjoyable.
I had the lasagna with meat sauce. It was a rolled lasagna which was very good. My wife had the chicken Parm. She enjoyed it. I enjoyed her leftovers the next day. My mother had the short rib which looked excellent, vegetables and all. My mother in law ordered the pasta Bolognese. Let's just say that is what I will be ordering next time. My father in law had a pizza. The pizza oven appears to be wood fired and is viewable from the dining room. He thoroughly enjoyed it. My son has chicken strips from the children's menu.
The cocktails were fun. The wine list was good. The 2 people at the table with room for dessert enjoyed their cheesecake and chocolate gelato.
I can't...
