I want to start by saying I wanted to like this place. I read a story on NextDoor about how the restaurant came in Christmas day to make lobster ravioli for a family, even though the family said Christmas Eve would be fine. They wanted the food to be fresh, and that's commendable. I decided to take my girlfriend there based on that alone.
The location is in a strip mall/plaza, but that's no big deal. The inside was clean and the interior was nice.
The bread came and it wasn't anything special. Not great, not terrible.
We ordered a Fried Calamari appetizer and entrees. I got the Shrimp Alfredo and my girlfriend got the Salmon Piccata.
For salads I was asked what dressing I wanted and I said Caesar. My girlfriend got the house salad with ranch. My salad came and was a house salad with Caesar dressing on top. No big deal. That was my mistake. It's strange because when I usually order salads that way they bring me a Caesar salad, but again. My mistake on that and I'm not going to hold it against them. My girlfriend rated her salad as "it was mediocre. Nothing special".
The Calamari was a generic frozen calamari. The breading and calamari was not fresh. Further, it was cooked too long in the deep fryer and completely dried out. The dipping sauce looked like Mexican food salsa and had a slightly sweet taste to it. Very watered down. It was still bland.
My Shrimp Alfredo looked like a watery spinach artichoke dip with all the parsley in it. Somehow it had absolutely no flavor at all. The sauce, as I mentioned, was completely watered down. The egg noodles had absolutely no flavor. The shrimp was even bland. I ended up salting the dish just to get some taste. It was a small portion that looked cheap, tasted cheap and was $13.
My girlfriends Salmon Piccata had just as much parsley in her dish, meaning it was completely covered. The sauce was very watered down and pooled at the bottom of the plate. The salmon was dry and very overcooked. She couldn't even finish the dish. The overall flavor had too much lemon in it, and apart from that was bland and didn't really taste like anything.
The staff was nice and did check on us. They asked us how it was and I'll be honest, I said "fine", "great", etc because I didn't want to be mean to these nice people. Like I said from the top. I want to like this place.
I also know that leaving negative reviews online can hurt a business. I'm not trying to ruin this place, so I promise that in six months I'll come back and try the food again and see if things have changed or if I just had a bad night and somehow 6/6 food items were substandard. I'll update my review with that experience. It seems that the owner is active replying to negative reviews and I want to give them the opportunity to...
Read moreLook, we have gone physically to this restaurant a few times. The food is good.
BUT my God, the service is terrible. Every. Single. Time.
My husband didn't get a refill for a super long time. This really made me upset, because the main reason we went out instead of ordering in, was getting refills on our drinks.
They RAN around the restaurant and asked everyone and their mother if our food was their food.
By the time they realized it was our food it had sat out, not under a heating lamp, so dreadfully cold. I told my husband, they don't remember that is our food, but he thought surely that's not the case. My husband didn't mind the food being cold, but I absolutely did. (He's weird and will let his food cool for a really long time anyways.) We were very hungry and out for Valentine's Day, so we cut them all types of slack. They gave us a 10% discount off the meal, but I would have rather had them remake the food without the discount, because now I am up with stomach trouble. Honestly, I would have let it go, but food poisoning is where I draw the line. I didn't even eat my entire meal, I gave my husband the rest.
We still tipped, because we aren't jerks.
We aren't super demanding patrons, but when you eat at a restaurant you expect hot, fresh food and refills of your drinks. We don't even expect friendly service, because we get it, work sucks. I am a restaurant management and hourly recruiter, so I get it!
We had the stuffed mushrooms and those are amazing, truly great, but they remembered it was our food, so we got them in a timely manner after they were finished cooking. My dish is normally great, but not when it's cold. He liked his dish, but he conceded that it cold, and not at proper temperature to have been served.
We normally order this food via food delivery app and I'm sad to say this, the food is BETTER, because the food has always been melt through the bag HOT. We actually thought about having it delivered, but the entire menu is not available on the app. (They really need to look into that, especially since having customers at the restaurant is such a hassle for them!)
Now, there are other options for Italian food in Denton, I know this, 2 restaurants that are not chains and have great food. We went to Napoli's because we knew those other restaurants would be packed for the holiday. Why them and not Napoli's? Napoli's has a bad reputation for terrible service, not bad food. And I was right, because we were seated right away with no wait, they were busy, but not as busy as they should have been given the holiday.
TL;DR Food is good, if you can get it fresh. Service is always bad. Good luck with refills. ALWAYS tip...
Read moreThis is the best experience i have had so far with an italian restaurant. Me and my family sent to this restaurant at about 8pm and let me tell you it was packed!! But they still made room for us! Right when we sat down they asked us what we would like to drink and they brought us the drinks in under 5 minutes, they gave us some time to think for our food and then we ordered, they even brought us bread rolls! For apatizers we ordered fried calamari, wings, and cheese rolls, came out in about 7-10 mins! And for dinner we ordered Calizone, stombolli, large supreme , a medium large margarita pizza, and dont forget about lasagna! About 20-25 mintutes later they brought us our food but now keep in mind in other restaurants i would have to wait 30-40 mins. The atmosphere was also amazing!! All the workers were super kind in there and were understanding! All of my friends were always telling me to go and that i wouldnt be disappointed and I am very glad I listened to them!! 10/10 I will definitely be coming back every single time my family comes back in town!! This is there new favorite restaurant and i agree. Even though it was PACKED in there they will always make time and room for their customers! I recommend before you judge a book by its covor just go try it out!! You will absolutely LOVE it. Go try it out, you wont...
