Chef Dato's Table: what an amazing gem just outside of tiny Latrobe this is! Kara (the owner and the late Chef Dato's wife) and her chefs and servers are all absolutely wonderful. The food? Incredible; large portions as well. The drinks? Delicious. You can go ahead and make it a point to come here now if you don't want to keep reading (trust me, you'll love it) but I'll share a bit about what we had below.

My wife and I visited for lunch and each got a handmade cocktail--a Negroni and Manhattan--perfectly crafted by Kara herself. We ordered the Giant Bavarian Pretzel with bier cheese as an appetizer, which was, in fact, absolutely enormous (the size of my adult head!), hot and flaky, and the hot cheese dip was chef's kiss.

We were both feeling a sandwich, so after some help from our amazing server Paige (ask for Paige as your server!), I selected Chef Dato's Famous Giant Fish Sandwich and my wife picked the Roasted Turkey on (house made) Stuffing Bread (basically a Thanksgiving meal in sandwich form with gravy and cranberry jelly--the stuffing IS THE BREAD!). Did I mention the portions are enormous here? Come hungry!

Our sandwiches were perfect and the fries hot and crispy. We had zero room to try dessert this time around but I cannot wait to return to try their dinner entrees or one of their famous Wild Game nights.

Latrobe is incredibly lucky to have Chef Dato's. Swing by when you're...

It was 1 pm on Valentine's Day when I called Chef Dato's Table after striking out all over the place. They told me they could get me a table for two at 5:15. SOLD! Somehow neither of us had been here before, but I'm certainly glad my first choices were booked up, as this cool little restaurant has leapfroged over all of them as my new first choice.

We were seated at the one table I saw and really wanted in the bar area but didnt ask for. SCORE! I had spent the four hours prior to arrival trying to decide between three entrees listed on the Valentine's menu. I ended up forgoing the prime rib and the surf & turf, and I ordered the Lamb Lollipops with a side of scallops (my own ad lib surf & turf) from our very attentive and fun server, Lesia. Susy went with the Tuscan Linguini with scallops.

Everything was absolutely incredible. The cocktail menu was amazing, and the drinks were awesome. We're not dessert people, but we were led to a glass cooler filled with artwork. We chose to split the chocolate cheesecake. O.M.G. it was delicious!

It's not if we'll be back to Chef Dato's but when. Seriously, how did I never hear about this place before? (Sorry for no photos, but I forgot I had a phone after the...

They say you should never judge a book by its cover - a statement I wholeheartedly agree with. I think the same can be said of a restaurant’s exterior - no one should ever judge the quality of the service or food from the street.

From the outside, the place really is unremarkable, but when you enter, you feel like you’ve been transported to an upscale restaurant at a big-city downtown location.

I like to think of this place as a casual-upscale restaurant, vibe-wise, with a varied menu that is not your run-of-the-mill choices for the area. Upon entering you find a very nicely decorated inside with a decent sized bar and seating all around along with table service besides. The main dining area, right beside the kitchen you can sorta see through frosted windows, is big and spacious.

Service is exceptional from the greeter to the waitress, and food comes out at a good pace from apps, to salads, to the main dish.

I really do hope the locals understand what a gem of a place they have. This is truly special and my wife and I will now always make it a point of eating out at least once, here,...

Me and my husband stopped for the first time today. Upon pulling into the parking lot we were concerned because there weren't other vehicles, but decided to go in...and we were not disappointed! We have driven by dozens of times, but today we made it part of our plans and we were pleasantly surprised! We will DEFINITELY return! The atmosphere was warm and comfortable and the service was fast and friendly! We started with the crispy provolone cheese wheel....it is served over marinara sauce and was crispy, gooey, and delish! Both entrées were very good and the portions were good. If you've driven by in the past and didn't stop....please do! Added bonus, they have rotating specials and serve many different international cuisines. Put it on your list of places to go!

Amazing food, all homemade on site, which is probably why it’s so awesome. In fact they make everything on site including all their salad dressings and even down to the tartar and cocktail sauce. Everyone was so friendly and puts off that real home town vibe. Everything I had was wonderful and I am certain anything else you get would be the same. You have to try the apple dumpling, it’s out of this world. It’s also quite large and easily shared. Sam our server was nice and on the spot. The owner was so friendly and just makes you feel at home. This was my first visit, and it WILL NOT be my last. Can’t wait to return, thank you to all for making the evening memorable.
