Prepare to be transported back in time and immersed in the enchanting ambiance of this hidden gem—a bar that effortlessly combines history, charm, and a laid-back atmosphere. As I stepped into its doors, I felt an immediate sense of warmth and familiarity, as if I had stumbled upon a well-kept secret known only to those seeking an extraordinary experience.

Nestled within the walls of this establishment are countless tales that trace back to the year 1876, painting a vivid picture of a bygone era. Whispers of a haunting linger in the air, adding an intriguing layer to the already captivating setting. Although I didn't encounter any otherworldly encounters during my visit, the allure of the bar's historical mystique certainly left me captivated.

One of the highlights of my evening was the plethora of entertainment options that awaited me. From classic board games to engaging rounds of checkers, pool, and even pinball, there was never a dull moment. It was a testament to the thoughtful curation of activities, providing ample opportunities for patrons to unwind and engage in friendly competition.

However, it wasn't just the fascinating history or the captivating ambiance that made this bar truly exceptional—it was the exceptional service provided by a bartender named Danielle. Her expertise and passion for mixology shone through as she skillfully crafted a myriad of delightful concoctions. Among her memorable recommendations was a tantalizing Michigan cherry vodka creation, whose name eludes me in this very moment. Rest assured, though, its exquisite flavor left an indelible impression.

In this establishment, one can't help but feel transported to the era of speakeasies and clandestine rendezvous. The subtle hints of that era's allure are unmistakable, gently guiding you through an unforgettable evening. It's a place that effortlessly marries the past with the present, granting each visitor a unique experience that can't be found elsewhere.

For those who appreciate the rich tapestry of history, this bar is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. Whether you're a history buff or simply seeking a low-key date night in Detroit, this establishment promises an enthralling journey. Allow yourself to be enveloped by the echoes of the past, the laughter of fellow patrons, and the clacking of billiard balls as you savor each moment.

As I bid farewell, I knew without a doubt that I would return to this extraordinary bar, eager to reconnect with the congenial atmosphere and perhaps challenge a friend to a game of pool. It is a place where memories are forged, laughter is shared, and time seems to stand still—a testament to the enduring allure of this remarkable establishment.

Make sure to pay them a visit and discover the magic for yourself. Prepare to be transported, for this bar is more than just a place—it is an experience that will linger in your heart long after...

Talk about a long and storied history! This place traces its roots all the way back to the middle 1800s! It once served as a stop over of sorts, when prisoners were being transported from one location to another, usually over long distances. As the story goes, jailers would stop over and spend the night drinking, as their prisoner was locked up in a cell under the bar. The bar and back bar were ordered through a Brunswick Company catalog and delivered complimentary with the agreement that the bar was only going to serve Stroh's beers and ciders exclusively. The bar is gorgeous and still complete. At one point, the bar had a urinal rail that allowed patrons to not need to leave their seat (no women allowed), thankfully, that feature has been removed! Taller patrons beware! There is a brass bell hanging above the bar. If you ring it, you have to buy a round for the entire bar, and you will not leave without doing so! Cold beer and great history is what you will get here, and really, what more do you want from a local watering hole? Take a trip into the past, and hoist a pint to old Detroit, a city on the rise once again! You can feel the history and you can tell the family...

Detroit Bus Company Drunks of Antiquity Historic Bar Tour stop.

They have a bell hanging from the bar with a sign that reads "If you ring the bell in jest, you buy a drink for all of the rest." Fun idea for everyone that can read. For the idiot that rang the bell and thought they wouldn't make him pony up for shots for all 40+ people in the bar, not so much. The bar maid actually got aggressive making the guy pay, which I found wonderfully amusing.

This place is exactly what it should be - a dive bar with a gimmick, great staff, cheap beer, and warm nuts. Yes, you read...

No food menu other than a soup of the day made by the barmaids mother. Whatever she feels like cooking, the day we visited is split pea, and not a fan of peas, this was loaded with chunks of ham and potatoes. Very stick to your ribs soup. A shot and a beer rounded out the “meal” the bartender was super friendly even had us sign her up”out of towners” book as we were from Alabama. When you search dive bar this is a go too place. Don’t let the doorbell deter you, or the seedy neighborhood. Stop in and see the “Oldest Bar in Detroit”
