Zorba's Coney Island — Restaurant in Detroit

Came in Father’s Day-great meal! Left 5* positive review! I’m retracting my review as of 8/19/2023. Waitress came by 3 times to ask if we were “ready to order” so, feeling rushed- we ordered-a waffle-side of gravy, with a biscuit. Omelette, and toast, and a coney..3 soft drinks. Food came for 3 of us, and 2 of our meals were cold, 1 was a coney dog all slopped together (no brainer there). The other was a big, messy omelette that had some type of unseasoned hamburger/beef mix (?) onions and green pepper. Inside the omelette, the hash was lazy..(canned most likely which is “ok” if heated on the grill)-potatoes were nearly raw, toast was burned and covered with kitchen “prep” (often subbed for butter at diners)-but it was soaked with that and turned upside down to hide the black, burned bread! Just gross! My family member went to season his omelette for a some kind of flavor, and the salt shaker came out so fast-it just ruined the rest of the omelette experience. Put some dry rice in your shaker people!! I sent the cold waffle back for a one shot in the microwave-(we were restaurant workers for 18 years-so a 1 shot is a quick trip in the microwave.) 5 mins later… a waffle was returned to me that I could have donated to Southgate for a manhole cover. It was totally cold…again, and now rock hard from being left sitting in the mic. The sausage gravy was sent back bcuz it was like eating some type of kitchen disinfectant contaminated it! I’m not lying, it had a horrible chemical taste..I tried to be nice and call over an older woman that was just standing by the register-in which I had made eye contact with for a solid 25 seconds..as I waved for her, sand last resort in a polite but loud “excuse me, please,” and she just looked at me like a statue! Didn’t move a muscle!! I got a hold of the original waitress that took the order-and explained how we have never had a worse meal there! I just got out 2 of the issues- and she just walked away!! NO words, just a glare! I’m like “?” She came back, and slammed down the new bill! She took off the gravy (never did get a biscuit 😒) and the waffle. Again, just walking off without saying a word! I took the $25.00+ bill, I don’t care how bad the food has been in any place I have eaten-I have never taken bad food out on the servers; except for today! I left her not even 1 cent for her tip, and I don’t feel bad at all! The entire staff on Father’s Day all looked so happy together! It was shift change; and I noticed how they gave a quick hug to the ones taking off-and enjoyed them joking around with each other..we really liked our meal, too-but today was not it! We eat home cooked meals except for a weekend treat now-and this just solidifies the need to save the $$ and make our own food at home everyday! Just taking a meal off the bill without an offer of remaking the person’s food is unacceptable! So, I am having to make something for breakfast now at 1:14 pm; peeved off. It could have been a whole different situation if she showed one ounce of concern, or if she even offered to have them throw another waffle on..really, how much would it cost to remake a simple waffle? 1/4 cup of premade waffle mix? Takes 4 mins at home. Kids make them in a hotel! It doesn’t really take a rocket scientist to make one! It cost you our business NOT to just throw a new waffle on. When paying the ridiculous bill, the server told me to tell the Manager, Amy on Monday. Ya, no thanks-u don’t have anyone that can handle things for 2 days out? Laughable! If your restaurant closes, I won’t feel bad..actually, I expect it! Look at Leo’s down the road..and their food was...

Not only did they over charge for the food is very pricey, but just to let EVERYONE KNOW they charge a large fee to use a debit card

I came here back in the beginning of summer and I didn’t pay that much for my food and I ordered the same thing.

They charged me 5.76 dollars fee on my debit card they charge a 3.699 percentage fee and the lady was very rude I could have made my own food at home for much less each thing I ordered did not include a side and if you want cheese it’s an extra 2.25, to add on anything extra each add on is 2.25

I used to come here all the time And the service used to be exceptional, this time the service was terrible and everything was over priced and the lady was very rude and disrespectful and I’m not even from Detroit!

The receipt doesn’t show u how much or anything it just has a price with the large fee on it it doesn’t specify anything so you don’t know how much or how to properly calculate anything. It’s borderline robbery and I used to love...

I like the food here. The only issue I have is the old lady in the morning. I believe she's the manager. I come often however lately she's had a nasty attitude. I noticed the attitude at ME personally but didn't say anything. Today however was my last straw. She acted as though she didn't want to take my order, didn't treat me like the other paying customers there. When my food was ready she bagged it and set it on the counter n walked away. Another waitress came to ask who's order it was before giving it to me. She called out everyone else order and handled it with care. Orders she didn't even take but my order(which she took my order) she didn't call out mention or anything.
