Country Rose Café — Restaurant in Dickinson

We recently moved to ND. This was our second visit to this restaurant. On our first visit, the food was excellent but our server was completely unfriendly... un-attentive, seemed to have a really bad attitude toward her work and her customers. I brushed it off, willing to give her the benefit of the doubt (Maybe she was having an off day, you never know what people are going through). Today, our second visit and Mother's Day, I was disappointed to see that her manner had not changed at all. She never smiled, never acknowledged that it was Mother's Day in any comment to my wife. She never checked to see if we needed anything at all after taking our order. She got a part of our order wrong, and when asked about it, never apologized for the mistake, just turned around and walked away. I wanted to get a coffee after eating, but despite my best effort to get her attention, was never acknowledged. The owner seems very friendly and engages with the customers, even visited with us for a moment, but our server has one of the worst attitudes I have experienced as a paying, repeat customer. (There was another server working, who I'm guessing, by her appearance, is not related to the owner, who was smiling, pleasant and attentive to her customers, so I don't think the work environment could explain our server's rotten disposition.) When we went to pay, our server came to the register, and I was surprised that she never even said "Thank you", "Have a nice day", "or even "Go to Hell" (Which is exactly the vibe she puts off). I don't understand why she is in a position to deal with customers, because she clearly has no respect for her family business customers. The food is excellent, the owner seems genuine, and I'd love to keep coming back. Frankly, because of her, I will never return to this restaurant. I'll take my money and my weekly breakfast business...

Definitely as good as it gets, have never had better!! It's the hash browns, cooked with so much love and butter I've been craving them ever since we left! So good in fact that we ate there two mornings in a row as we passed through! Wish we could have stayed longer to try some other menu items but those hash browns and chicken fried steak took all my attention!!

First off, they are busy!! The tables and counter are usually full with a couple few folks waiting. I'm sure they get even busier but both time we were there, they were full to the rim! Service is excellent, rushed because they're so busy but still very attentive and kind.

Our food came out hot and fresh, no sitting in windows at this cafe, they get the food out as soon as it's done! Looks like a giant family affair with grandma cooking the soups and desserts and everyone else gathered around! The soups are absolutely delicious, I had to get some to go it was that good! It's really hard to put it all into words but this place is of a dying breed. I'm referring to the small town diner. This place does all the things you expect from such an establishment flawlessly. From the seating to the plates you're eating your food on. As far as the food it's concerned, it's well executed. Everything on the menu is good. The Country Skillet is a safe go to and way more food than you expect when you order it. The portion size is healthy and bound to fill up anyone. It's one of the few places in this town that you really can't complain about. A must try if you're driving through, want a good breakfast, and experience a disappearing part...
