My experience at Punjabi Dhaba is a little mixed so I gave it an overall 4 but will be giving three different ratings for food, ambience and customer service. Read on. I Ordered from the menu which included chicken biryani mild spicy, tandoori chicken, lamb korma came with plane rice and garlic naan. Let me get this out of the way I almost entirely judge an Indian or Punjabi restaurant based on the tandoori chicken and let me tell you it was great. The outside was dry but soft and well seasoned inside was juicy and full of flavor for me that makes a perfect piece of tandoori chicken. The chicken biryani well seasoned full of flavor chicken pieces were moist made from chicken thighs not breast I prefer chicken thighs in my biryani. I would recommend squeezing the lemon all over the dish it came with two pieces and enhanced the flavor. It was good without the lemon it was amazing with it. The lamb korma have great flavor but the lamb pieces were tough and chewy but the masala (seasoning) on it was great. The garlic naan was below average mainly because it was very hard on the bottom this could be due to only one chef and it was a pretty busy night. Overall I give the food a five star rating. I'm pretty sure the server was the owner she was nice but service was slow and again it was a busy night and only one server was present. For that reason I give it a 3-star rating. Ambiance and space was a little clustered an overbearing lighting was inconsistent throughout.there was Art and artifacts and paintings all over the place and they happen to be all over the place American art Indian art Punjabi art folk art abstract art. It was a big space but many of the tables were crowded together which felt a bit claustrophobic. With that said it also seemed like a truck stop which could explain a lot. For these reasons I give it a two. Again my overall experience I give it a four star rating definitely worth a visit and from the reviews I've read stay away from the buffet lunch or dinner order off the menu and highly recommended tandoori chicken.

This is a small family-owned Indian restaurant 'hidden' right off of the 80 fwy near a FABULOUS fruit stand. It has a nice BUFFET DINNER (very rare at dinner time)....so if you are somewhat new to the cuisine, you can taste different items without going full force on something you may not like. There are lots of different meat/veggie dishes including FREE hot chai tea, dessert, hot Naan (bread) and we were offered plain and/or Garlic. This is probably our 5th-7th time eating here, as we come up yearly for an event in the area. Tonight I was disappointed. The Raita (a yogurt sauce I use for my Naan) was VERY 'off' indeed. The yogurt was very sour and in my opinion, obviously past due date. Raita is NEVER 'sour' or off tasting. It is a mild yogurt base with carrot, mint and cucumber and the sour taste was distinctly the sign of someone cutting corners and using old food. It makes me sad the cook or chef (or maybe even the owner) is putting out past date food or worse, not bothering to taste or smell what is coming out of the kitchen. In their defense I've had milk where its turned bad/sour way earlier than the date. The other food there was fine: Goat with bones, Dal, Pakora and Fish Pakora, Saag Panner, hot Basmati rice and other delicious dishes. I'm begging the owner/cook/chef to please check or taste the food that comes out of your kitchen to make sure it is the best for your guests.

I highly recommend Punjabi Dhaba in Dixon, CA! This roadside Dhaba is not only conveniently located off I80, but it also offers an amazing lunch buffet that is truly delightful. The food served in the buffet is delicious, and you'll find yourself enjoying every bite. The owners are wonderful people who take great care of their customers, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The garlic naan at Punjabi Dhaba is absolutely out of this world. It's flavorful and perfectly cooked, complementing the other dishes perfectly. Additionally, the restaurant adds to the overall experience by playing Bollywood movies, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. The location is conveniently situated, with ample parking available. What's even better is that they are very trucker parking friendly, accommodating the needs of truck drivers. If you're in the area, make sure to stop by Punjabi Dhaba for a delicious meal, friendly service, and a truly enjoyable dining experience.

Good food. A bit lacking in atmosphere. Best as a buffet but that's on hold due to CV. When they forgot to put the naan in the bag they called me & offered to deliver it.

Update: Interior has been largely remodeled but the food service equipment is old & worn. The staff is variable from helpful to cranky & unresponsive. Bathroom was awful (dirty, smelly). We had the dinner buffet. Salad was almost non-existent. Most hot items were fresh & flavorful. Fresh naan to the table. Exterior is in serious need of updating as well. Won't be going back anytime soon.

Update: Went back for lunch buffet today. Food was nice & fresh and a good variety of dishes. Chai was flavorful and inexpensive. Fairly busy today and overall better experience.

Update Nov 2025. Got here between buffet times, so ordered from menu. Food was good, lots of flavor without being too hot. Waiter was cordial & attentive. Prices have increased about 20% over the past 5-6 years. Over all, considerable improvement from some past experiences. ...
