Per-freaking-fection! We are Northerners, turned Southerners, turned Northerners, visiting the Rocky Mount area to visit friends and family. We were blessed to find Smith’s restaurant for breakfast and everything was DIVINE. We need restaurants like Smith’s in Ohio! It’s a great model. You walk in and go to the right for takeout and to the left for dine in. The takeout line is genius. Cafeteria style with all of the best southern choices! Those who chose takeout were in and out so quickly! They all looked like repeat customers and looked quite happy! We had DJ as our server. She was very attentive and so quick in getting us refills and extras. My daughter got the 2 meat plate and I got the 1 meat plate. Mine included 2 deep fried link sausages which can only be described as “magical”. My daughter had the same and about 6 pieces of bacon as the second meat and we each had 2 eggs, a homemade biscuit, a side of tasty hash browns, and the most delicious stewed apples. My son got an order of biscuits with sausage gravy and added bacon on the side. He ate that up so quick that by the time we had started our food he was asking for more! We walked out with two full take home boxes. Nothing left for my son but plenty for my daughter and I. We will be back EVERY year and maybe before we leave town! At DJ’s suggestion we went next door to Smith’s grocery store and bought some sausage and lunch meat aa well as some locally made jams to take home as gifts! I would recommend...
Read moreI ordered 2 side orders of fatback, an order of plain toast and 1 scrambled egg with cheese. I received 5 pieces of fatback, toast and a section full of scrambled eggs,no cheese that came off the buffet. The waitress came by and asked if everything was ok and I said I ordered 1 scrambled egg with cheese and these eggs have no cheese and are off the buffet, she tells me she can add cheese to my eggs and I asked how many pieces of fat back come in an order she says 2 or 3 pieces in an order. She didn't offer to take the eggs off the bill because I didn't eat any of the, and she didn't offer to take a side order of fatback off the bill. The lady with me ordered tenderloin and gravy on a cheese biscuit and it came on a plain biscuit. Evidently the waitress didn't write our order down correctly, she had issues with understanding English or she just gave us what she thought we wanted. I have been going to this restaurant since it opened and never had this kind of service before. I'm not sure if I will return or not, but if I do I will definitely not sit on the left side of the restaurant where this waitress was last Saturday. I will look for other waitresses that I know, that know what they are doing. That was a waste of...
Read moreOnly 4 minutes off Highway 95! Classic country down home cooking. All that good food on the plate plus banana pudding to go for $10.66?! Get outta here. The pork chop in gravy didn’t even need a knife it was so tender. Luka beans and green beans perfectly seasoned and not overly salty. The handmade cheddar biscuit was thick, fluffy, and the size of a hand. For first timers, you can order things like hamburgers off a menu if you just sit down, but that’s not the experience you want. As you enter, you’ll see the line to the right down the chute. Choose either your meat then two sides and bread, or ask for a veggie plate. They’ll get you silverware and a drink once you sit down. When you get ready to leave, ask for a ticket and pay at the front. Hope to come back to try breakfast!
