Express Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Dothan

A very small place that you will miss if not really looking. The sign outside only says Express. You should go early or later to avoid the crowd because it really picked up at lunch and was pretty busy. It is a family type atmosphere. They have it decorated now for Christmas and my three year old grandson really loved the decorations. They also have a little box of toys for kids to enjoy while they are there. My husband and I had a roast beef sandwich with fries and my grandson had a grilled cheese and fries from the children's menu. I didn't look at the printed menu so they possible have more than is listed on the sign above the counter. Here you place your order at the counter and fix your drinks. A waitress brings your order to the table and she checked back often to see if we needed refills, but basically you can get your own refills. The prices weren't bad and the Sandwich was really good. Portions we're also good. Unless the menu offers more, there isn't a lot of choices and the salad bar is extremely small and limited. Parking is also limited. We enjoyed our meal and will go back. The only problem we had was the price listed by the child's grill cheese wasn't what they charged. They said it was the sales tax, but it still didn't come to the right number. I think it's a mistake on the board, but let me add that the price we were charged was decent for what he got on his plate. This place is definitely budget-friendly—$35 for three people—but even at that price, the quality didn’t quite match up. The menu is just a small sign up top, which makes ordering a little inconvenient. I had a salad from their cold section, and it was fine, but nothing special. The others had a lasagna dish and spaghetti, and neither looked particularly appetizing. The flavors were pretty basic, and while I wasn’t expecting gourmet food, I hoped for something a little more satisfying.

I just moved to this area not long ago, have heard several people say how good the food is here, so a friend and I decided to eat here for the very first time yesterday, it was so delicious and the owner who was also our waitress was so friendly! I ordered the italian hoagie with fries and cold slaw and my friend ordered fried chicken with cold slaw and mashed potatoes, she said hers was really good as well! The owner said they also have the best roast beef hoagie around- so I will be trying it the next time I go back, and I will definitely be going back! I highly recommend this place!
