Visited Dothan for the first time and it did not disappoint with regard to what we were looking for. Murals, old buildings, historic whatnots and local cuisine from local businesses ONLY. We were driving around looking for great photo opsā¦this mural caught our attention. We spoke with a very engaging man that was busy controlling the smoker/grillā¦heās a Master!!! He gave a back story about himself and the business and it was obvious he knows a lil something about the restaurant business. He ushered us inside and pointed out the staff and their likeness in the mural on the wall. We decided it was time to eat, even though we had eaten a large breakfast only mere hours before. It was time to let Mama Tās jerk us, as the sign mentioned. We got the jerk chicken, beef patty, yams, okra and greens. We also got a surprise sample of the curried goat, OMG!!š. They have salt/pepper, Crystal and Trappeyās on the table, but they really arenāt needed because everything is perfectly seasoned. I wanna give a shout out to the young lady that was nice enough to let me lust and drool over her tomahawk pork chop. I know you had a huge smile on your mouth while enjoying that. All of the staff were so friendly and had great vibes. They were so happy and shared their smiles with everyone. When we return for another visit we have our tummies comforted that we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wanted to share my experience at Mama T's with yāall. Itās such a hidden gem! Me and my friend were in the area and saw the name on the side of the building. Iāve seen posts about it on Facebook but never stopped by. Yesterday, me and my friend decided to stop in. From the moment we got there, I didnāt realize it was Mama T herself in the car with the biggest smile. You can tell she appreciates all of her customers.
The food was absolutely delicious. The food was served cafeteria style. Mostly everyone ordered a meat and two sides. Personally, I ordered the oxtails, macaroni and cheese, the collard greens/cabbage mix and a side a chitterlings. The oxtails were hearty and tender. Then the sides were just as amazing in taste. I didnāt know what to expect from the collard greens/cabbage mix but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Other options they had were curry lamb chops, jerk ribs, baked chicken, hamburger steak, lima beans, yams and a whole lot more.
I would highly recommend trying it out if youāre lookin for some great soul food!
Also, itās more like a grab and go with a few tables. Definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food here is incredible. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and had an incredible flavor. And some of the best candied yams I've had. You get a meat, two sides, a drink and a hush puppy. The lemonade is so good I was tempted to ask if it came in a gallon jug. It's so good that I'm now mad at other lemonades for not being this lemonade. I was just in town for the weekend to help a friend move in and now I gotta find excuses to come visit them more often so I can have more food from this place. The hours are a bit restrictive, but If you're in the area while they're open, then you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not eating here. If there's a line, the wait is worth it. If you're looking for a family run restaurant with food that will be stuck in your dreams the next couple of nights. This is the spot.
PS: Get the banana bread. Don't think about it. Just get the banana bread....
