Nelly's Mexican Food — Restaurant in Downey

1st visit at Nelly's was a pleasant one. The ladies working were incredibly welcoming and friendly. The prices were very good as well. The dining room is definitely on the smaller side but it was very clean and well maintained.

We ordered a bistek ranchero, which my mother in law liked. My father in law went with a burrito de lengua and he liked it. My wife went with a quesadilla de asada, it lacked flavor. I went with a Plato de sopez, 1 asada and 1 carnitas with rice and beans. The sopes were so loaded that when I tried to bite it, it all fell off. The asada again lacked flavor, but the carnitas was delicious. The masa was a bit hard however, and I didn't think much about the beans either.

I am disabled and I can’t walk very well, so I can’t do it as often as I wish but I have been to this place on my dog walks a couple handfuls of times and I have to say that no matter who is in that kitchen at Nellys they are making your food RIGHT. Everything from the tacos to the tortas is BOMB! This hands down top #1 (if not, it’s tied for 1st) most delicious little Mexican restaurant I’ve had the pleasure of eating from. Their Al Pastor is amazing! The tortas are exquisite. They make killer fries. They haven’t missed once. The prices are fair (especially for the quality of the cook). The service is super friendly and accommodating (SO TIP WELL!) It’s a small place, right off the freeway. So don’t expect some fancy looking bland chain restaurant. This place is the real deal. Man, listen. Let me tell you about Nelly's. I hit that spot whenever the craving for a good asada burrito hits, and let me tell you, it hits hard. This ain't your average burrito, nah. This is the kind of burrito that makes you question your life choices—like, why haven't I been eating this every day? It's got everything you need: the carne asada is always on point, the rice and beans are fluffy, and it's all wrapped up so tight you'd think they were trying to smuggle it across the border.
