We were in town due to our daughter having a soccer game. We decided to give them a try because my husband love Jamaican food. At first glance we thought the prices were reasonable. We ordered our food to be told that they were out of the peas and rice which my husband wanted with his oxtails and he decided to go with the curry goat due to them being out of the rice he wanted. My daughter ordered the curry jumbo shrimp which again we were told that they were out. She ended up getting the chicken sandwich with fries, I ordered a cheeseburger with fries. There were only 2 couples in the restaurant seated and were already eating. We waited a little over an hour t before our server came back and told us they were out of white rice also but it was cooking. My husband asked for the check so he could pay for the drinks. The young lady came back and said that the rice was ready and would we like them to go ahead and fix the food. My husband gave her the ok to have the cook to go ahead and plate up. Once we received our food we realized that the food is not worth the money that you would pay to eat there. My burger was $15 and it was a pre-made burger patty. It was very bland. The curry goat was $25 my husband said it was just ok. My daughter chicken sandwich was $16 and it was just ok. Overall we paid $89 and some change for the meal. (They add in gratuity). Yes, presentation wise the food looked amazing but flavor wise it not worth the price. On another note, I must say that our server was very nice and I did leave her a tip on top of the gratuity already being taken out because she was exceptionally good at making sure we were taken care of. But needless to say if we are ever back in Dublin we would not be eating...
Read moreMe and my fiance went here on Monday evening. We weren't really greeted and waited a bit longer than expected considering there was only one other table dining at the time with multiple employees walking around (around 3-5 minutes). Everything was fine except for them turning up the music to an almost unbearable volume to anyone not actively drinking. When our food came out it was definitely less than desirable. The beef patty was okay, it seemed like it had been sitting for a minute because it wasn't warm. Our entrees came out my fiance got the jerk lamb chops, which were the best thing we had, though his mash potatoes were cold and unflavored. They had no salt in them and there are none provided at the table. We would of asked the server but we didn't see her until we got the check because she was also running the bar, which became her priority. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas and my food was not appetizing in the slightest. My chicken was dry, unflavored and had absolutely not a sliver of jerk sauce on it. My cabbage was good but cold, as was the rice and peas. Overall our experience was subpar and the food was not very good. Definitely feels like they are focused on the bar experience than the...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Candace Bar & Grill, and overall, it was a great experience with some standout dishes. The coco bread and beef patties were hands down the best I’ve tasted in America—flavorful, and authentic. The curry goat was amazing—tender and perfectly seasoned. The oxtail, while well-cooked, was unfortunately way too salty, which took away from the flavor. The brown stew chicken was good, but it was missing that touch of sugar and ketchup that gives it the signature balance.
The jerk chicken had a nice char and flavor on the outside, but could have been marinated a bit longer to let the seasoning soak all the way through. The white rice was soft and flaky—just right. The steamed cabbage was on point, perfectly cooked and seasoned. And the plantain? Absolutely amazing—sweet, caramelized, and done just right.
This spot has serious potential and clearly knows how to deliver on authentic Jamaican flavors. I’ll...
