This is this location's 4th or 5th incarnation since I have been coming here (55 years now) but it is the best one yet. The portions are large, the prices reasonable and the food is, as always, delicious. I had the shredded beef quesadilla which came with chips and salsa as well as generous portions of rice, refried beans, guacamole and pico de gallo. If I have any complaint it is that the refries were a tad thin for my taste; I like them a bit thicker, but that's just my personal preference. Otherwise the entire dining experience for my wife and myself was very enjoyable and that's why Big Country is a regular stop for us.

I stopped in at the Big Country Cafe for breakfast to see how it compared with the old Albert's menu, and I was quite impressed. The prices looked to be slightly higher but the portions were significantly larger. They have also redone the interior. But the main thing is the food so I got down to business and ordered a western omelette with biscuits and gravy. It was HUGE. The omelette was flavorful and there was a nice big stack of hash browns alongside it. The biscuits and gravy hit the spot as well, and had some nicely browned chunks of sausage in the gravy. If you leave the Big Country Cafe hungry it's your own fault.

Visited on 3.15.2025... I took my friend Jaidyn up her recommended to eat here and enjoy her company. I know that her waitress skills and outgoing personality are legendary from meeting her at another restaurant in Amarillo. Aside from Jaidyn, the food here is Amazing and it is worth the 45 minute drive from Amarillo to Dumas. Highly recommend to anyone driving through the Texas Panhandle. Definitely will eat here again!!! Returned on 7.24.2025 and got served by Shelly. The Chicken Fried Chicken Platter was Spectacular!

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my original post. I understand that my time might have been off from your cameras. To use the 1:41 time we were there, one employee looked directly at my spouse & the table we sat down at, another employee was tending to the table right next to us, while 3 were just folding napkins & utensils makes it hard for me to believe that they didn’t have an opportunity to say they will be with us shortly or bring us menus. Regardless where we’re from, we’ve dined at smaller establishments that at least greet you or say they will be with you shortly right when you walk in the door. And no they didn’t have a hostess like you mentioned in the response. We literally just ate at a small town mom and pop cafe the day prior that everyone greeted you right before door even closed. This might feel like an attack but when you compare small town mom & pop cafes to other similar establishments, it’s hard to believe when you hard “Objective” and “first hand experience” contrary to your rebuttal....

When I walk in, it was seat yourself. After sitting with six waitresses hanging out around the bar, no one came to ask for me what I wanted to drink or gave me a menu or even says hello for about six minutes. After I turned to look at them a couple times, they figured it out. I was looking for someone to help me. The waitress I got was very sweet apologized for not coming over sooner. I did let her know that there was another table that looked like they were looking for someone to take their order as well so she made sure they got taken care of. The food was good, but they forgot to bring out my salad. Overall, I would give it a second chance when I drive through again to see if it was...
