We ordered chicken and broccoli with general zso sauce, cashew chicken, egg drop soup, and crab rangoon. The fried rice was very bland and the bright yellow color a previous reviewer mentioned. There were not any peas or carrots in it and it was clumpy. The cashew chicken only had a couple cashews in it and was mostly celery. The general zso sauce tasted like duck sauce with a couple chilli peppers in it. The egg drop soup was so hot I couldn't even eat it; I had to take it home. I did give them some stars for actually having fried noodles for the soup. However, by the time it was cool enough that I could eat it, my noodles were gross and soggy. The crab rangoon did not have any crab in it. It was also a yellowish-whitish color and had kind of a sweet taste to it. It was just not very flavorful either. The egg roll was also really greasy and did not have much "stuffing" in it. I've been trying to avoid Jade house because of the buffet, but I guess I'm going to have to go back there if I want decent...
Read moreThere are a few things they do well but everything else is a hit-or-miss. You pretty much can’t go wrong with their beef lo mein; it’s the one thing that is consistently yummy. Outside of that, we’ve probably ordered from them over a half dozen times in the last 3 years and it’s always disappointing. Their chicken dishes are often bland, dry and kind of startling bleached-white. They have that super weird yellow-hued rice (turmeric seasoning maybe?) that seems to be a Shiawassee county thing — we’ve experienced it at a few different Asian restaurants out here. I grew up in metro Detroit and fried rice is supposed to be brown — not neon orange. Their gravy is pretty disgusting and every time I’ve got dumplings (either in my wonton soup or fried), they seem undercooked and borderline raw. That said, 3 stars because for $6ish, you can get the lunch special from 11am-2pm with what seems like nearly a pound of pretty great beef lo mein and odd-colored but otherwise...
Read moreABSOLUTELY a treasure in the small, sleepy town of Durand Michigan. We haven't ordered from this restaurant in over 4 years until recently and were delightfully surprised. Excellent food, even better prices, friendly staff/family and very fast service. I would definitely recommend their combo platters!! Enough for 2 dinners with egg roll included and, if what you like isn't listed under their platter options, just ask. I found that nearly all menu options are available as combo platters. The egg rolls and crab rangion taste home made. The vegetables are crisp and plentiful as well as plenty of meat and fried rice. GREAT JOB everyone at the Durand, MI China House. It's become our "Go To" for take out. Some "spicy" options aren't as spicy as I'm accustomed to but that's remedied with the plentiful hot sauce or hot mustard which is actually still complimentary, unlike many...
