Luke's Pub & Steakhouse — Restaurant in Durand

Oh my, what a local treasure this place it! We went for dinner on a Friday night, and the parking lot was packed full - we soon learned exactly why! Live music played from the outdoor seating & hangout area as we made our way inside to the dining room. There did seem to be more of a bar area off to one side of the interior - low light, bar seating...but we were seated in the brighter dining area. Although they were busy, service was quick and friendly. Truly a very casual joint - when I think steakhouse, I think a little different, but the atmosphere here leans more pub or pool hall or bbq than steakhouse. They do offer very affordable buckets of beer and seemed to have a nice selection of wines. The food was outstanding! The very best part of the whole meal was our appetizer - the rattlesnake bites - they were not at all what I expected, but by far the most delicious and unique part of our experience. A MUST TRY if you make it out to Luke's. My date & I opted to split the ribeye for 2 and it was HUGE! Perfectly cooked, and we actually made a whole other meal off the leftovers the next day. The steak for 2 came with 4 sides, so 2 each, which was generous and they offered a decent variety of options - none of which were exceptional, but all of which were good. We were too full for dessert this time...next time, we plan to come for the live music and some drinks with a side (or 2!) of rattlesnake bites - that'll be enough for me!! It was easy and convenient to pay our bill when the time came, and we look forward to our next meal at Luke's!

The one drawback I would note was that we were seated right outside of the servers' workstation, although there was plenty of open seating elsewhere in the dining room, so there was a lot of congested foot traffic near our table, general back of the house hustle and bustle. There were also two larger groups (6+) seated on either side of us who were older, seemed to know each other, and were a little rowdy...unfortunately, the acoustics of the restaurant/dining room did nothing but amplify all the shouting across tables, making it quite loud around us while we were trying to enjoy our date night. I've haven't been here in years and while visiting family, decided to stop in with my parents. I had been out of the country for months and was craving a 'simple' BLT. I was excited until it was delivered to our table. It was the saddest BLT I have seen. It barely had any meat on it. The bacon was only a bite on one part of the sandwich. If I were the cook, I would've been embarrassed to send that sandwich out to a paying customer. The server came to our table and asked if everything was okay. I had to be honest and say no. I showed her the sandwich and asked her to take it out the bill and to charge me for the potato only. She took the sandwich and apologized for the lack of meat. She came back and offered a slice of pie on the house. I accepted whatever she recommended...the Key lime pie. It was okay. My parents were satisfied with their meals of Hamburger steak and country fried steak, but they aren't picky. This is why I give 3 stars. Okay so a family of 4 went on a Friday night. When we got there we stood inside the front door, no one greeted us, we really didn't know if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait. Finally someone came and said it would be just a few minutes for a table. We sat and waited for someone to come our order, finally someone came. We finally got our drinks and the order of fried pickles. We placed our orders and my son who doesn't eat salad asked if he could sub another side for the salad, she said no. That made no sense either since the salad and the side items both coast $2. We sat and waited with empty glasses. Then our steaks came out, but we had not been given our salads. My husband told the waitress we never got salad, we never got our bread. I wasn't impressed. The steak was good but not exceptional. The service was terrible and the noise level was so loud we couldn't even hear each other at our table.It was seriously louder than a middle school cafeteria at lunch .
