My wife and I were passing through and hungry and this popped up on our radar. Small place, but cozy enough. It was full but we got a couple of seats at the long counter, tall chairs. The waiter and waitresses were busy, but very polite and attentive. Our waitress greeted us with a smile and got our drinks right away, including water. We started with clam chowder, which came out quickly and hot. The chowder was perfect, not too much flour, perfect consistency, lots of clams and potatoes, topped with some chopped parsley when presented. Very tasty. We opted for the beer battered cod sandwich which came with truffle fries suggested by the waitress. Perfectly cooked cod, beer batter with just the right amount of crunch, and on a brioche bun with lettuce and a dollop of tartar sauce on top and bottom. Excellent! The truffle fries were a wonderful suggestion and when she came back to check on us, she offered rosemary mayonnaise for dipping and came back with some. Wow, that's the stuff right there! Really good. Overall, it was a super busy place, but we didn't mind it because the staff looked like they were having fun, they smiled and treated the many people coming in for take out courteously and promptly. The young man handling the hungry patrons was a real pro and I was very impressed with his positive attitude. Obviously, a very popular place. We got a bonus when the whole place sang happy birthday to a cute little girl that was there with her family. The bunch of rowdy guys at the bar really belted it out and the whole place erupted in applause. Having been in retail for over 35 years, I know when I see something good and this place is a gem. Great food, great staff, win...
Read moreI had a group visiting the Duxbury area, and called in advance of their arrival. The General Manager helped me. When I asked if he would be able to accommodate a group order order 15 minutes before the restaurant opened, he happily said he would do it. He gave me his phone number and the name of another person at the restaurant who could help me if he was not in the building. He appeared eager to help.
When I called the restaurant the day the order was needed, no one answered. Voice messages were left, requesting a call back to place an order. No one ever called back. In the end, the group I had waiting for food had to find and go to another restaurant....a huge inconvenience, and very disappointing outcome after spending so much time to plan the meal at The Anchor.
In short, while the food looks original and inviting, I would not recommend trying to order any food from this restaurant as a call in order or to...
Read moreWe used to love this place and food was always great, not so much anymore. Last two times weâve gone itâs just not good. Service is wonderful, appetizers are great but meals not so much. They changed the fries, and sadly they just arenât as good and OMG donât get the baked cod-it was awful. I tried to ignore the smell of fish, I really did, but in the end I just couldnât eat it. Daughterâs grilled cheese was fabulous though and service is always so very nice. It was previously a great place to get a good lunch or dinner, sadly weâll have to find...
