Let me tell you what I didn't like...the drive. About 2.5 hours from San Antonio. It seemed like forever. Once we arrived, we felt like royalty. Greeted & welcomed & we felt important. My son and I arrived just after they put up the closed sign....Note, don't wait til the last minute to arrive like we did. They were out of BBQ items, thus the closed sign. Lucky for us, we weren't there for the BBQ today. I asked if they could accommodate one more order after such a long drive. They said yes, as long as we didn't mind a chicken-fried steak or ribeye. This worked out just fine. We ordered the CFS and decided to share. There's no way on God's earth we could each eat one by ourselves. The staff eagerly took our order, asked us what sides we wanted and what drink. The manager or owner even chatted with us for a bit, and made us feel so invited & welcome....even if they were technically closed. I'm sorry, I don't remember her name. Please don't try to all show up like I did, after closing. I'm advising you to get in there at least 2 or 3 hours before closing. There is no guarantee their doors will be open the entire posted time. Now about the food....get ready... The Chicken Fried Steak came out on something like a pizza pan. It was enormous. Well breaded, warm, and covered in flavorful white gravy. Nice & thick gravy. It didn't make the breading soggy. For the end of the day, the sides still tasted so fresh. My son loved the mac & cheese with a dusting of chicharones (fried pork skins). The pinto beans were well seasoned with bits of sausage. The mashed potato was very fluffy. My favorite was the green beans. Seasond just right with salt & pepper & bacon. I wanted to order more, but I was stuffed from the enormous CFS. My son & I finished just over half of it. We took the rest home. Making CFS & eggs for breakfast tomorrow. The staff never even seemed upset that we came in after they put out the closed sign. We felt like family. It's rare to be treated so well and made to feel welcomed & appreciated. It's a tie between whether I was impressed by the food or hospitality the most. We certainly plan to return for the steak and...

The following review is coming from a self appointed CFS connoisseur. I have traveled all over and try the CFS. I know what I'm talking about.
I have seen The Wagon Wheel and their famous chicken fried steak on social media for a long time now. Eagle Pass Texas is quite a drive for normal travelers, but I happen to be working here today. After finishing my jobs late afternoon, it's definitely time to eat. The restaurant is a small, local business with a great interior and friendly staff upon arrival. Late afternoon seems to be a good time to visit, as there were plenty of tables available in the air conditioned dining room. They do have a nice outdoor patio if the weather wasn't so damn hot. They have a very extensive BBQ selection from brisket by the pound, ribs and pork. But I'm here for the star attraction. The CFS is served on a pizza pan with 2 sides, Texas toast and a roasted jalapeno. And I gotta have the sweet tea of course. The CFS is topped with peppery country gravy, chives and paprika which makes the plate very appealing. As one should expect with a steak this large (it's a 2lb sirloin) the edges are darker and crisper due to the frying process. As I cut and ate my way to the middle, it got better with every bite. I ordered the cheesy mashed potatoes, and green beans. Both were satisfactory BBQ joint standards. I ate almost half of this creation, with a few bites of the sides and piece of toast. This meal could easily satisfy 2 people plus another one. I'm taking it all home for later. I was able to use my stamp and then have a lovely chat with Selena, the owner. Absolutely make a trip out here someday if you are a CFS connoisseur like myself. Tell Selena that Maloy sent you.

Β Β Β Read moreThis place isnβt good at all. Upon walking up to the door, a guy was sitting outside and waved at us. We waved back as that was a nice gesture. We walked in and the guy cutting the meat was nice as well and weβre excited about a good bbq experience. However, this was not the case at all. Me and my companion ordered two meat plates with two sides, 2 drinks and a peach cobbler totaling $80.36. The meats were ok, had way better at HEB, the sides were cold and the tea was weak. My friend took back the tea and got a bottled drink, charged him $4.25 for that. I was annoyed by that but shrugged it off until I tasted the peach cobblerβ¦β¦ the peaches were dried and brown inside the crust as it was definetly way past the shelf life inside the soda cooler. I told the βserverβ that itβs no bueno and she said ok, let me go ask. No response from anyone so we got up and I went to the cashier and asked for a refund. She said kinda snarkyβ¦βWell, you already ate most of itβ. I said βNo I didnβtβ, I had one bite!β She just looked at me funny so I said βYou know what screw itβ! We walked out and I told about 10 people walking in the restaurant not to eat here cause the food sucks. The Owner wearing about 8 gold necklaces, fingers covered in gold and jewelry walked out and snapped at us asking why we said that. I said because the cobbler was gross, couldnβt get a refund and charged for a bottled drink after buying a glass of nasty weak tea. Owner refunded us 5 bucks but not the cobbler. I do not recommend this restaurant at all. Thatβs because Texas Eats had a segment on this restaurant so we drove a long way to try it....
