Unimpressed, doubt we'll be back. Stopped by for dinner on a Tuesday night around 7:30. Place is a typical self service type place. Order at the counter and they bring food out to you. I got steak fajitas and my wife got the "special dinner" platter. Food was ... Ok. Fajitas were just the meat, peppers and onions (good, but a touch bland). No other condiments (cheese, sour cream, etc) unless ordered on the side. Shells were corn, not flour. They were warm, soft and numerous, but I prefer flour ones (personal taste). It also came with a generous serving of rice and beans (good, but not great). Food was piping hot and the portions were quite generous. My wife's filled beef thing was way too spicy for her. I enjoyed it though - beefy, cheesy and spicy. The rest of the platter was good she said, but a touch dry and bland. A few quibbles I would have with them. Food was served not on regular plates, not on paper plates even, but in take out containers. This, despite knowing we were eating in. They told us that the food would be in takeout boxes when we ordered. Just odd. I mean they had numerous tables for dine in, yet bring food in takeout boxes. Maybe the relatively late hour? COVID thing? I dunno, but it did not make a good impression. Other problem I had was that they would not serve a cup of tap water. All drinks were bottled and a small bottle of water was $1.75. I was used to this in Italy, but here that strikes me as a bit, no, rather stingy. Especially when we are paying 12-14 per meal. Overall, i don't know we'd return. For the price, I'd expect more service, actual plates and cups of water. Maybe their other dishes are better, but I'm left rather...
Read moreBeen going here for years and always enjoyed the food. The soft corn tacos, topped simply with cilantro and onions and chicken enchiladas with rice and beans were my favorite. There are plenty of reasonably priced lunch specials too. The servers are friendly, and the wait for food is never long despite being a busy restaurant. I'm sure the servers like the idea as much as I do of being able to help myself to sodas in the cooler and taking the bill to the register to pay.
The chips and salsa here are not all you can eat for free. The chips and salsa are an add-on cost which are not included for free in any meal. That's fine with me, keeps my cost down because I don't need chips.
The quality of the food has changed. The chicken enchiladas, rice, beans and salsa verde are nearly tasteless. There seems to be no effort at all to serving tasty food. The other two eating along with me had to agree.
My other complaint with this restaurant which has been a problem since they opened, is the food is not served HOT. If you go in the winter months. the food might be warm and the rice and beans will be room temperature. WHY you ask? One reason is the owner does not use a heat lamp in the kitchen after the food is plated and waiting for the server. A second reason is the plates are not heated at all and I'd guess they sit adjacent to the outside wall and are actually cold to the touch. The owner knows the food is not served hot and the waitresses have told him for years yet the place does a good business so I guess he figures there's no point...
Read moreAfter an amazing dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Lititz last night I was craving more tonight so we decided to give this place a shot after seeing all the good reviews. We arrived around 8 and had no trouble getting a table (bonus - we got a booth near the heater). Unlike Chillangos in Lititz, this place doesn't give you complimentary chips and salsa but no biggie, only $1.99, however the salsa was too sweet and tasted like it came out of a jar and the chips were dark and dense - total disappointment. No fountain drinks, only 12 oz. glasss bottles you get yourself out of the cooler. For our meals hubby got the Chorizo Quesadilla which was tasty and I got the Chicken Chimichanga. My meal was meh - way more cheese than chicken but it had a nice taste. The beans and rice that came with my meal were bland and looked unappetizing to say the least as you can see in the photo. The rice looked more like couscous, all chopped to bits and stuck together with little to no taste and the beans were the same, just a few whole black beans in a puddle on my plate. The meals were served with a cup of chopped tomato, onion & cilantro which was quite tasty, shame they couldn't recreate something similar and serve fresh, homemade salsa. Guess it serves me right for not returning to Chillangos, I won't make that...
