I'd give a 10 out of 5 for service if I could. I've taken my handicapped mother here a couple handful of times this year, and the staff are always very friendly, and especially to her. They've gone above and beyond to take care of her when her medical challenges have caused spills, and they assist always with a kind word and a smile. It's immeasurably helpful!
The food on the medium-sized buffet is good, country cooking on Styrofoam plates and plastic silverware. It's not Michelin 1-star, but its on-target for stick-to-your-ribs good. There's usually at least 4 meats on the line, some in rotation, a small salad bar with cold items like chicken salad and potato salad, and a hot veggies and breads bar. There are several desserts as well. I recommend the hot-from-the-oven cookies and pan fruit pies when available. I'm told the banana pudding is very good.
I spoke to the manager to learn more and JRocks handles a lot of events. Unusual for restaurants in the area in their price range, they have multiple rooms for events and banquets. I was shown a private dining room set and decorated for a shower for 50, and was told they can get at least 80 in the room with rearrangement. They can also accommodate a DJ setup, and have a large rolling door in one corner that can be opened for indoor/outdoor events.
They also have a large room without full privacy that can be rented for large groups. I don't know how many can be seated, but it was larger than the private room. I understand this functions as overflow for popular Sunday dinners.
They also have a catering truck for off-site catering.
There's an internet jukebox near the register. It only takes dollar bills, but has a wide variety of songs to fit...
Read moreI came down with my best friend from North Carolina and we came to have lunch with my family after church. The check-in process was very easy, the hostess for seating guest was truly impeccable and very friendly, and the service staff greeted us with a warm smiles and acknowledged us both at the buffet and our table. They have what I like to call the quintessential southern style grandma‘s Sunday cooking buffet available with all the favorite southern fixings. The collard greens, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, pork chop, salad, bar, and an all the things you would want. For approximately $20 plus tip it’s a fantastic value for the options that they offer and it’s locally owned so you’re not costing your money at a corporate establishment. The only thing that I have to say is that I think my grandmother makes better Black Eyed Peas, but they were still delicious 😋 there’s always at least one thing your grandma makes better than everything else so I had to include it in my review. JROCKS is definitely worth the visit, and a return visit. My only feedback is that they only provide disposable serviceware for plates and utensils. However, being in the food industry myself for 20 years, and post Covid, disposable serviceware options are a reality and make the best sense for sanitary purposes and an efficient way to enjoy the delicious food That they offer. I will...
Read moreGreat place to celebrate a birthday! Everything was ABSOLUTELY excellent except the TOGO prices. Due to the fact that it's buffet style, prices are typical meat, and 3, around $17 plus tax. Togo prices are $8 a pound. I was amazed at how 2 tablespoons of cabbage, blackeye peas, mac/cheese, 1 tablespoon of potatoe salad, fresh fried fatback, and a piece of porkchop would add up to 3.8 pounds plus tax. I paid over $32 plus tax! In order to take you remaining tea, not a refill, just the tea you had left in your cup, you had to pay $1. I could not believe it! Once again, the food was delicious, and the establishment was very clean. This is not a place that could frequent twice a week like OJ's because of the prices. But the food is 200% better. You have to weigh out all of the excellent pros against the one con, the $8 a pound togo prices. It appears to me that they are catering to the people who can come in, relax, and enjoy their homecooked food vs. the people that have too many small children at home to bring in for lunch. I suggest having a person designated for Togo orders. That person can go through the buffet and fix your plate based on the same price as a sit down and enjoy. The only difference is they will not be going back for refills! Will I go again? Probably. Will I takeout. Probably not unless it's...
