Pies Galore & More — Restaurant in East Hempfield Township

Really looked forward to trying this pie shop, but was disappointed when we visited this past weekend. Staff were pleasant, the place looked charming, and prices were very reasonable. However... I purchased three pies to take home: pecan (for myself), blueberry (coworker gift), and cherry (gift for my parents). Wish I hadn't. The crusts were crumbly - turned to dust as soon as a fork touched them. The fruit pie fillings were mostly goop, very little fruit. For the in-house experience, my friend and I bought chocolate chip scones. Served warm, they were delicious... but had a curiously moist, spongy, almost cake-like texture that just doesn't go with "scone". While we ate at the cute windowfront tables, we couldn't help but notice the dust on the decor, the dirty floor, and (despite the shop having opened just 45min earlier) the full trash cans. Between that and the half empty pie display case... It left us with the impression that things aren't fresh daily, or cleaned regularly, and we probably won't be back. The pies don’t live up to the price. We got a shoofly and berry pie. Both were very dry. We visited at 11:00 am and purchased the last two pies they had in the case. We were the only customers there and the owner was having a bad day. He said his help was on vacation and he projected I’m tired with no desire to put on a, “I’m happy you’re here patronizing my establishment”, face. This is the second time we visited here (the first visit was a year ago with the same experience) and both times there was a virtually empty case and a lack luster staff. Stopped there about 2:30 PM on pi day. A busy day for them, so they were out of a lot of things. We waited for a few minutes and got very delicious blueberry pies. Baked just right crusts and just right crumb tops, even though my favorite is dough tops. Will need to return when they have more options. It's also a coffee shop....
