I've always emjoyed a cold one at Lazy Lizard, but recently came by to see a friends band perform on a Saturday evening. The staff, which I was told later actually WAS the mgmt, went beyond bad service to straight up disrepectful. It was like they truly did not want our business. We weren't "locals" so we were treated like "the enemy". Getting a drink was dang near impossible, and when it finally did come, the glass was HOT to the touch, which doesn't keep a beer cold very long, does it? The attitude of the mgmt/bartender really added the cherry on top. You know, that one weird looking, bad tasting cherry that must have sat at the bottom of the jar for years... About an hour before last call, I asked for change for a dollar to play pool (since the change machine was broken, having already wasted two bucks in it seeing as how there was no "out of order" sign anywhere in sight, don't get me wrong, I'm never the guy who will ask the bartender for something if I can do it myself...) which was greated with a frown, and a less than friendly retort of "we're closing soon" (they closed in about 2 hours, more than enough time to play a game of pool) at which point I literally had to beg for change for a dollar, and explain I'd be quick and be out before closing time. It's strange, I mean, why start a business if you don't want to do any business? Too bad too, because this is one of the areas only decent bars/grills. But I can't review without mentioning the good things too, so here's this: The two stars are soley for the really good food here. At least there's that. Management and bartstaff however, really need to rethink what they want to do with thier lives, as service industry...
Read moreI'm a pretty happy camper after visiting this place.
I walked into this"grill" because my favorite burrito was sold out next door at the shell station (another hidden gem). My first impression was that someone threw a bunch of dining tables together with a pool table and bar without hiring any kind of decorator - the design is a bit mundane with... You guessed it... Lizards everywhere.
After sitting myself down, I was immediately greated by two individuals who I assume frequent this place (they said as much). These two gentleman took no time to mention if I needed recommendations on what menu item to order, they were there to help. This quickly turned into a conversation about lizards and snakes and how the decorations could use an improvement.
I decided on a burrito called the Gila Monster.
The food was excellent and surpassed all expectations. The enchilada sauce as it's called was both spicy and tangy (perfect). It was pressed on the grill so the tortilla was nice and crispy. Inside was a combination of cheese (tons of it), chicken meat, and green chile. I wolfed this thing down and would definitely order it again.
All in all I stopped here by chance and left feeling very happy with the coincidence. I'd recommend this place to anyone stopping by.
Don't mind the lizards...
Read moreI'll start with the positives: location, laid back vibe, beer selection.
Negatives/needs help in these areas:
SERVICE-our server was a petite goth girl, SO soft spoken (inaudible at times) & not personable. The staff were behind on bussing tables even though it wasn't busy. AMBIANCE- muggy, hot. No AC or fans (at least it felt that way) Which was weird because it was a beautiful, temperate, fresh day in the mountains! They need to open some windows. Lighting is awkward. It was dim, but not in a purposeful way. The colored lights above bar are out of place. Soft white lights would help. Way too many things cluttering the walls. The lizards are cute, but all the signage, dry erase boards, fake plants, Knick knacks, are tacky. The two tone grey on grey walls are not helping the lighting or vibe. Should have done white paint to brighten up the space. FOOD- meh. The buns for both sandwiches were cold/not fresh tasting. Almost as if they grilled the buns then stored them in the fridge for later. Weird. That threw off everything about the food. The price point did not match the quality whatsoever.
I write this review as constructive feedback, in hopes they can improve. The LL deserves to be a successful business and I know they could do better if they cared & tried just a...
