While riding across town with my current side chick, we happened upon an unexpected little gem of a Mexican restaurant, tucked away on Sugar Rd. It is surrounded by houses and apartments, making it almost invisible to the eye. The restaurant has some of the most incredible food, and a wonderful clean, and inviting atmosphere. Although being modest in size, its cozy interior conceals a culinary treasure trove of spectacular flavors. Upon being seated we immediately asked for Mexican coke with a glass of ice. Mexican coke gives a cleaner, more natural, and flavorful taste. It also enhances the dining experience. Then we were served warm, freshly fried corn tortilla chips with a perfect salty crunch, paired with a bright, vibrant salsa bursting with the balanced flavors of fresh tomato, onion and peppers. We ordered Enchiladas Suizas and Guerra's Chile Relleno plates. They serve breakfast all day, so I ordered 2 eggs over easy, ala carte, because who can pass up an opportunity for fresh, delicious eggs. The eggs arrived with beautiful yellow yolks and glistening, soft whites, cooked to perfection. The homemade flour tortillas are amazing, delicious, soft, with a delicate texture and warm aroma that far surpasses any tortilla, I have ever tasted. The chicken enchiladas suizas looked beautifully presented at first glance, but the 4 lovely enchiladas fell short of my expectations. The enchiladas were covered with a minimal whisper of queso blanco and salsa verde rather than a smooth, generous and flowing melted, creamy layer. There is plenty of chicken inside, but was dry, severely lacking the juiciness and any flavors, that I was expecting. The enchiladas dish was missing the characteristic vibrant rich, creamy tang of the typical Suiza sauce. The use of a minimal amount of cheese, green sauce, and very little or no crema at all, smothering the enchiladas, resulted in a flavor profile that is a bit underwhelming, flat, and did not meet my expectations. The rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned, fluffy, with each grain tender and separate, and every bite filled with savory, aromatic flavor. The refried beans are rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful. The salad is a refreshing accompaniment of a small bed of crisp, shredded lettuce, topped with a spoonful of bright red, diced tomatoes, very nice. The fantasticly cooked Guerra's Chile Relleno features a light, fluffy, crisp, almost buttery, batter encasing a tender, roasted poblano pepper filled with delicious, melted cheese and picadillo, diced potatoes and is crowned with fresh, chunky ranchero sauce, creating a fiesta of flavor in every bite. It is unmistakably obvious that each chile relleno is handcrafted with love and patience, assuring a consistent satisfying texture, and a flavorful mouthwatering experience. The Guerra's Chile Relleno is most definitely a 5 star signature dish, that everyone should treat themselves to at least once in their lifetime. Although, I felt the enchiladas suizas fell short today, we left Guerra's Kitchen feeling completely content after eating Guerra's Chile Relleno, experiencing top-notch service, and enjoying the welcoming, fun, family vibe that made it a truly spectacular and memorable meal. I'm already looking forward to coming back to explore more of the menu..Especially the breakfast menu, and hamburgers with fries. Also, there are tables out front, under the patio cover, for outdoor dining when the...
Read moreAtmosphere: New building and decent size parking (around 10 parking spots, around 4 handicap). Inside is cozy but they didn't seem to have working ac or not powerful one (they had fans running but felt hot, this is early morning at 7am).
Service : Kind service from owner (assuming he was the owner) showed me the menu and options. Food takes a while since they make it on the spot, there was 2 people there waiting and they take about 5-10 minutes per person. So expect to wait long if busy.
Food: I ordered a breakfast plate that came with pork asado (eggs, beans, potato). 1 bacon and egg, 1 chorizo egg.
Pork = good flavor Beans = good flavor, maybe too salty for some Eggs = average Potatoes = Bad, not cooked enough with barely any seasoning. Felt like I was eating raw potato. Bacon/chorizo = good, nothing special Portion size = Bad, small portions on the plate, tacos, even the salsa containers. Pretty obvious they trying to cut corners on saving money
Pricing: Ok this part I hated the most, their pricing for tacos is something that brings people in (standard low price of $2-3), but their plates is something unfair well at least for their breakfast one. On the plate alone it cost me between $13-$14, that's with small portions. On receipt it says $10 for plate plus $3 for the pork meat, that is pushing it. Even though they advertise their pork plate for 8.99? Dunno what happen there. So I'm assuming the $10 plate is only 1 egg, beans, potato? AND they put the main pork meat in the small portion of the plate, which is about 2 spoon fulls. You can make 2 tacos from the food from the plate (which is around $4-5), so basically you are paying double for less if you get a plate.
My total of receipt for 2 tacos and a plate was about $18-19. The same order i would get in a Valero gas station would be about $9-13 plus bigger size tacos and plate. For this reason I can't recommend this place till they fix their pricing and...
Read more🌮 A Hidden Gem Worth Discovering: Guerra’s Kitchen. On a recent late lunch outing, I stumbled upon Guerra’s Kitchen and was instantly charmed. The clean, bright interior paired with upbeat music created a welcoming atmosphere that felt both fresh and inviting. Friendly staff greeted me with genuine warmth, setting the tone for a pleasant dining experience. Though the menu is modest in size, each entrée appeared thoughtfully crafted. I opted for the puerco asado plate—and it did not disappoint. The vibrant red sauce might suggest fiery heat, but it was surprisingly mellow, with a beautifully balanced flavor that complemented the fork-tender pork. Served alongside were traditional rice and beans, but the rice stood out with a rich, buttery taste that elevated the dish. Throughout the meal, the staff remained attentive and responsive, enhancing the overall experience. 💰 With generous portions and affordable pricing, Guerra’s Kitchen delivers exceptional value. It’s a spot I’ll gladly return to—and one I’d recommend to anyone seeking flavorful comfort food with a...
