China House — Restaurant in Eldorado

Right up front, I am biased by the Chinese food with which I grew up and the restaurants in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas. To expect great Chinese food in South Illinois is a bit of a reach.

The online ordering was very easy to maneuver and gave you the option to either pay with a credit card or pay when you pick up the food. That was excellent. The food wasn’t quite ready when it said it would be, but the wait was only a few minutes. The dishes I ordered were the hot sour soup, General Tao’s chicken and the house special chow fun, a noodle dish. Not quite what I am used to and it was a little under seasoned. The chicken was the best dish out of the three. It was tasty and the broccoli was well cooked. I am used to wide noodles in chow fun, but I should have seen that it was a rice noodle on the menu, instead. My bad.

They will randomly close. I’ve called before on a day they are supposed to be open and they answered and said they were closed. Ordered food tonight over the phone, was told my total and it would be ready in 20 minutes, get there they come out and tell me they are closed. I responded with I called and placed an order 20 minutes ago. They again said they were closed and walked away. Didn’t even offer to make it right for taking my order and then deciding to close. I hollered to the back to tell them they should stop answering the phone and turn their open sign off then. The food is actually pretty good so it sucks that they don’t have good customer service skills because after that I probably won’t return, at least...

My friend and I were on our way to Garden of the Gods when we were craving some Chinese food. We just so happened to find this place and we’re incredibly happy we did. My friend got General Two’s and I got Sesame Chicken. They were the best we’ve ever had. We came back a week later mainly for this place (even though we’re three hours away).
