Super hot evening weather, requested indoor seating for 3. Not enough entryway waiting room to negotiate with the coming and going of staff delivering to the two tables dining outside the front entrance. Seated at a table with puddles of water on it. Waited. Server asked if we would like drinks before we started; waters all around. It is hot out. Menus & drink menu show up. No lighting. Look up. No lights. No light at table. Big flatscreen television but no light. Typeface on menu 12 pitch, or below. Wife (20/20 vision) breaksout cell telephone and fires up her flashlight to read the menu. This is a first. We order. Food is consistently decent, but the service is hit or miss unfortunately. We've had great servers and we've had one server who either doesn't like her job or she really isn't a people person. Normally I'd brush it off as someone having a bad day and let it go, but we've had her twice months apart and both times she was just miserable. Could hardly make eye contact at any point during ordering, would drop something off at our table without even looking at us and barely slowing down to set it on the table. Excellent food and beer. We ordered steak tips and fish & chips. The steak tips were cooked exactly as ordered and tasted great, along with the mashed potatoes and chef’s vegetables (Brussels sprouts - not bitter, cooked well). Good serving size for the price, $22. The fish and chips were great too, with the fries being above average compared to most places around. Large portion size on the fish and chips - we asked for it to be split two ways and it arrived on two plates with individual portions and each plate was more than enough.
