The Hideaway Sports Pub & Eatery — Restaurant in Elk Plain

We lived in the area for many years before deciding to stop for a meal. This place does not disappoint. I just never reviewed them before.

Tuesday, after meeting officials at the Pierce County Fairgrounds to see where we will be giving horse trail rides during the fair from 8/7 - 8/10, hint hint, we stopped for a meal before heading off to other errands.

Since we were last here, the inside has been remodeled and updated. The changes were very nice and definitely made the place much more cozy and family friendly for a daytime or evening meal.

The bartender greeted us warmly and told us to choose our table. Menus, water and coffee were immediately brought to us. There were a few changes to the menu from the last time we were there. All good!!

I ordered the Sammie meltie, AKA Patty Melt with tater tots. Ray ordered the Dirty Burger with an extra patty and tater tots.

Our meals came out quickly and were fresh and piping hot. I can’t remember the last time I had a patty melt with such wonderful ooey gooey cheese. The grilled onions were sweet and didn’t bite back.

Ray’s dirty burger also had ooey gooey cheese too. It was loaded and was no less than a 2 handed burger. Once picked up he could not put it back down, because it was so loaded it would have fallen apart. The bartender checked on us often to make sure everything was OK. More napkins was our only request.

The restrooms were remodeled as well. I loved the vanity for the sink. Of course I had to take a picture.

The music was from the 70’s and 80’s and did not blast us out. All in all we had another great meal and another...

I'm giving this place 2 stars strictly for this experience, because I genuinely like this place. I've been here numerous times, food is great, drinks are cold, margaritas are usually excellent, and service is normally good.

Tonight on the other hand, none were the case.

First I'd like to say, our server really tried her best, and was completely let down by the bar manager. The server stayed busy running around and trying to keep up, while the bar manager stood and talked and flirted with a bouncer for the majority of our stay.

The first Margarita was crap, ask for a different drink not to replace the crap drink mind you, we planned to choke it down. The manager happened to come by at that time and made a point to say, the crap drink stayed on the tab. We ordered food, which was good, and had more drinks. Many times we'd all sit at the table with no drinks, many times half full drinks were removed from the table. At one point the manager even came to the table to ask if we needed anything, but left before we could say what we wanted. To save her the effort I started just going to the bar for drinks. It was not a great experience, but to make matters worse, the moment we walked out, she came out to complain about the small tip, to customers. Right beside us.... Intending for us to hear. So I played her game, talked loudly to our group about exactly what my complaints were, and left. I'll return, but I'll leave if that manager is there, and tip heavy to our server from tonight if...

So we ordered food To go and I had gotten a time when it would be ready to pick up so I made sure I arrived by then..They said it would be 10 more minutes. Which I wasn’t upset about because that means super fresh...well when I got home with my food, just looking at it I could tell it wasn’t fresh. The chicken and hamburger were so dry I didn’t even want to eat it. Now we took a bite because we didn’t want to judge a book by its cover...sadly the way everything looked was the way it tasted! If we would have been at the restaurant and able to eat there I would have asked for everything to be remade or my money back. It was truly disappointing. Now I could have gotten them on a bad day but for the price I paid I won’t be going back. I really wanted to like it too because it’s so...
