RJ'S on 5th Ave Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Ellendale

Since it's asking for an update: 2/24/25- Ventilation long ago was taken care of made a huge difference, food is the same, they lost their best cook and have several new faces. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I guess some customers are getting double charged or having excessive holds on their cards when paying tabs end of nite. As in the initial charges being held for a few days after the final charge at the closing time. I know some merchant card reading software is notorious for doing this, but not sure if it's that or the establishment. (Previous review follows) Unfortunately not as good as it was. Over the past year or so, the food just does not seem the same. The taste and look, to me, has changed. They definitely need to do something with the kitchen ventilation as well,you can smell the deep fryers from the front door before waking in, and the inside is extremely kitchen grease food smell. Granted this establishment is small, but no tavern that serves food should smell like a greasy spoon in the bar area. I've only lived in the area for a few years now, but have really seen a change in this place. I originally loved it an ate there a couple times a week, but now not so much. I still appreciate it and patronize it ( it is the only bar in town) and will continue too. They have done some nice work outside with tables for eating and drinking and have live music more often as well. The beer is always cold, the pool tables are decent and overall a friendly inviting place with very good people and staff.. UPDATE 10/24 back to visiting and eating on a regular basis, the ventilation issues were fixed about a year ago ( I think?) the staff is still friendly, they re did the pool tables and the food is better and regularly...

I was excited to see Sloppy Joe on the menu. Unfortunately, it looked like someone put the hamburger through the blender. It looked gray, was mushy, and had no flavor whatsoever. I could not eat it. They were also out of fries and tator tots, so everyone got waffle fries that were very overdone. This is a friendly place to eat where you are guaranteed a smile and generous portions. My friend and I split the hash brown omelet and it was still enough for two people on each of our plates! There were a few TV screens set to different channels (no sound) so we could chat and enjoy our lunch. Self-serve pull tabs are available as well as pool tables.
