Probably one of the best San Francisco sour doughs out there. It used to be worth a try but we've decided against going here in the future. This was a favorite spot of mine until an unsavory incident with a staff member. A family member of mine, who is asian, visited the Breadery and was rudely, shouted at (yes that's correct), to put a mask-on by a Breadery staff member, when clearly some other non-asian customers AND staff members were not wearing one. This staff member, i'm assuming is the same one referenced in a multitude of reviews for this business. I elevated this incident on the Breadery's website contact section and was promptly called back by the owner. Upon explaining the incident, the owner had an idea of which employee could be responsible. He also explained that "something" in this staff members life could explain the off-putting behavior of the employee. I asked for a formal apology to my family member and while the owner was apologetic and was willing to give us a "free loaf" of bread, he would not confirm that this employee would apologize. To this day, an apology has not arrived nor do I care if it ever does at this point. I understand that Google reviews is not the forum to expound on personal beliefs related to these types of incidents, but I will say that most successful businesses often succeed by coupling a great product with great customer service. Breadery missed the mark on this one in my opinion and will no longer receive my business or my...
Read moreI found this place through the Groupon, even though I didn't use it this time.
First off, let's go in the door. Oh, is that some local coffee there and artisan jams, spreads, and jellies? Why yes, yes, it is. Thank you I will have some horseradish aioli! Up next - THE BREAD. What kind do you want? Cause they got it. A sourdough that is perfection, a challah that makes awesome french toast, raisins and cinnamon, plus whites and wheats galore. CARBS ARE MY FRIEND!!
Hey, what's this? WIne. Ooohh, well, may just a bottle of this adorable white.
You save the best for last - custom oils. Black and white truffle oils, plus balsamics, and so many more. And you included tasting cups! You are so thoughtful, Breadery!
Now we are up at the register and as she slices my bread for me I see they are making pizza outside in an oven. Lovely. Three of those, but only available on certain nights - good thing I will be back with my Groupon.
Incredible selection, great service, and yummy food - all down the road for me.
Until next time, you beautiful bread shop...
Read moreI had never visited here but was looking for a bakery with good sourdough bread. It’s well off the beaten track. I ordered for pickup. I walked in and wasn’t sure where to go. One gentleman was on the floor behind a table. He looked at me and I told him I had placed and order for pickup. He found my order and gave it to me. He wasn’t friendly or unfriendly but it wasn’t a welcoming atmosphere. The bread was not good. The crust was on the far side of brown almost but not quite burnt. It was supposedly San Francisco style sourdough. I’ve had the real deal as I used to live there and this wasn’t even close. Worse it wasn’t even sour! The loaves weren’t very big either despite being $5.75 a loaf. I understand small bakeries have it tough so I was willing to pay it for good bread but not this. The loaves had so many air bubbles it was more air than bread. Didn’t they know how to get rid of the bubbles? I do and I am not a professional by any mark. Maybe they gave me the wrong bread. I don’t know but I will pass on visiting this...
