Well butter my biscuit and call me happyâCharlieâs Catfish House in Ellisville, Mississippi, is just like cominâ home to Grandmaâs Sunday table!
From the moment you walk in, youâre greeted with that good olâ Southern hospitalityâthe kind that makes you feel like kin even if itâs your first visit. Now honey, letâs talk about that coleslaw. I donât normally fuss with coleslaw, but mercy, this one is somethinâ special. A little sweet, a little tangyâjust the way the good Lord intended. Itâs the only cold slaw Iâll eat, and thatâs sayinâ somethinâ.
Now for the star of the show: the whole catfish. Glory be, they cook it to crispy, golden perfectionâtender on the inside, crunchy on the outside, and seasoned just right. I swear, I have to get it every time I come back home. Itâs like a taste of Mississippi pride on a plate.
The hush puppies? Mmm, a little oniony, but still good enough to keep you nibblinâ. And those steak fries? Thick, hot, and just the right amount of crisp. Perfect for dippinâ or just poppinâ straight in your mouth between bites of fish.
And donât even get me started on the boiled shrimp. Land sakes, they were huge! You get a generous portion tooâenough to make your cousin jealous and your belly happy.
Oh honey, let me tell you about Miss Shellyâour waitress with a heart as warm as a skillet of cornbread right outta the oven! From the second we sat down, she treated us like familyâquick with a smile, sweet as pie, and sharp as a tack. She made sure our glasses stayed full, our plates came out hot, and that we had everything we needed without ever feelinâ rushed.
You can just tell she takes real pride in her workâand baby, that kind of care makes all the difference. Shelly, darlinâ, youâre a gem, and folks like you are the reason people keep cominâ back to Charlieâs. You made our meal feel like home.
Yâall, I just love this place. Charlieâs is comfort food done right, with a whole lotta heart. If you ever find yourself in Ellisville, donât you dare miss it. Now pass the sweet tea and letâs do this...

Read moreIt pretty good! A little busy but not busy enough for the service we received. There was 4 of us and between the time we ordered 3 sweet teas and one half and half she forgot who had what. We were never offered seconds on the Cole slaw or hush puppies. Our table was never cleared of dirty plates, she just kept handing us new ones and got frustrated when we had try and find room. 2 of us had the whole catfish and all 4 pieces were served on one plate? Asked for 2 to-go boxes and was handed 4 boxes, 4 cups, 4 lids and a bag then she walks away after she tells me to use what we need and leave the rest on the table... I had to sit in my chair and hold all the things she just brought me while one of us took it to go box and filled it, put the full box on the table next to us to try and bag up the rest. We literally had 13 plates & four glasses, a empty hush puppy basket and an empty coleslaw bowl on a table for four... I wasn't going to say anything but as we were standing up to go this waitress had the nerve to look at the plates we had to move, roll her eyes, shake her head and walk away mumbling. The food was not worth such an experience. We felt rushed and we felt like our business was a inconvenience for this woman. We paid over $80 to eat here. We tip 25 to 35 percent for good service. If we come back to this place it will be the first time I specifically asked to avoid being seated in a server's area. Can't tell you her name it was never offered in a description would probably come across as me being insulting so instead I will say short blonde haired lady who speaks...
