Well butter my biscuit and call me happy—Charlie’s Catfish House in Ellisville, Mississippi, is just like comin’ home to Grandma’s Sunday table! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with that good ol’ Southern hospitality—the kind that makes you feel like kin even if it’s your first visit. Now honey, let’s talk about that coleslaw. I don’t normally fuss with coleslaw, but mercy, this one is somethin’ special. A little sweet, a little tangy—just the way the good Lord intended. It’s the only cold slaw I’ll eat, and that’s sayin’ somethin’. Now for the star of the show: the whole catfish. Glory be, they cook it to crispy, golden perfection—tender on the inside, crunchy on the outside, and seasoned just right. I swear, I have to get it every time I come back home. It’s like a taste of Mississippi pride on a plate. The hush puppies? Mmm, a little oniony, but still good enough to keep you nibblin’. And those steak fries? Thick, hot, and just the right amount of crisp. Perfect for dippin’ or just poppin’ straight in your mouth between bites of fish. And don’t even get me started on the boiled shrimp. Land sakes, they were huge! You get a generous portion too—enough to make your cousin jealous and your belly happy. Oh honey, let me tell you about Miss Shelly—our waitress with a heart as warm as a skillet of cornbread right outta the oven! From the second we sat down, she treated us like family—quick with a smile, sweet as pie, and sharp as a tack. She made sure our glasses stayed full, our plates came out hot, and that we had everything we needed without ever feelin’ rushed. You can just tell she takes real pride in her work—and baby, that kind of care makes all the difference. Shelly, darlin’, you’re a gem, and folks like you are the reason people keep comin’ back to Charlie’s. You made our meal feel like home. Y’all, I just love this place. Charlie’s is comfort food done right, with a whole lotta heart. If you ever find yourself in Ellisville, don’t you dare miss it. Now pass the sweet tea and let’s do this thing right!

I almost gave it four stars due to the long wait at dinner time, but the catfish is so good that it deserves five stars for the catfish alone. If you like soft-cooked catfish, you won't find any better anywhere in Mississippi. Fluffy, light, delicious.. The oysters are also equally tasty. French fries could use some seasoning, but who cares about French fries when you have the best fried whole catfish that can be found? Suggestion: Don't come between 5:30-7:30. You'll be waiting forever to get your food. Come late afternoon or at 8pm. But if you do come during rush hour, the fried catfish is worth it!

It was standing room only, that's how popular they are! People came from near and far. I came 1100 miles and family took me there. The fish seasoning was awesome! They serve cornbread, Cole slaw, French fries and a Vidalia onion. $12.95. If you visit Ellisville, Mississippi or near by, please visit for their catfish! Absolutely delish!

I had a dream about a commercial about this place and it went like this:

Narrator:

"In the heart of Laurel, Mississippi, lies a culinary gem that has captured the essence of Southern hospitality and flavor. Welcome to Charlie's Catfish House, where the humble catfish is transformed into a masterpiece of taste and tradition."

Cut to Gordon Ramsay, inspecting the kitchen:

"Right, let's get one thing straight. This isn't just any catfish. This is Charlie's catfish. Fresh, succulent, and cooked to perfection. The batter? Crisp and golden, with a seasoning blend that dances on your palate. It's not just food; it's an experience."

Narrator:

"As you step into Charlie's, you're greeted with the warm, inviting aroma of Southern cooking. The atmosphere is cozy, with a charm that makes you feel right at home. The staff? Friendly and attentive, ensuring your dining experience is nothing short of exceptional."

Cut to a close-up of the catfish being served:

"Look at that. Just look at it. Perfectly fried, with a crunch that gives way to tender, flaky fish. It's a symphony of textures and flavors, each bite better than the last. And let's not forget the sides – hush puppies, coleslaw, and fries that are the perfect accompaniment to this star dish."

Narrator:

"Charlie's Catfish House isn't just a restaurant; it's a testament to the art of Southern cooking. It's a place where tradition meets innovation, where every meal is a celebration of flavor. Because at Charlie's, you're not just eating – you're experiencing a slice of Southern heaven."

Cut to Gordon Ramsay, smiling:

"Charlie's Catfish House – a true Southern treasure. If you haven't been, you're missing out. Get down here and taste what real catfish is all about."

Narrator:

"And there you have it. A dining experience that leaves you satisfied, yet yearning for more. Charlie's Catfish House – where every meal is a story, and every story...

It pretty good! A little busy but not busy enough for the service we received. There was 4 of us and between the time we ordered 3 sweet teas and one half and half she forgot who had what. We were never offered seconds on the Cole slaw or hush puppies. Our table was never cleared of dirty plates, she just kept handing us new ones and got frustrated when we had try and find room. 2 of us had the whole catfish and all 4 pieces were served on one plate? Asked for 2 to-go boxes and was handed 4 boxes, 4 cups, 4 lids and a bag then she walks away after she tells me to use what we need and leave the rest on the table... I had to sit in my chair and hold all the things she just brought me while one of us took it to go box and filled it, put the full box on the table next to us to try and bag up the rest. We literally had 13 plates & four glasses, a empty hush puppy basket and an empty coleslaw bowl on a table for four... I wasn't going to say anything but as we were standing up to go this waitress had the nerve to look at the plates we had to move, roll her eyes, shake her head and walk away mumbling. The food was not worth such an experience. We felt rushed and we felt like our business was a inconvenience for this woman. We paid over $80 to eat here. We tip 25 to 35 percent for good service. If we come back to this place it will be the first time I specifically asked to avoid being seated in a server's area. Can't tell you her name it was never offered in a description would probably come across as me being insulting so instead I will say short blonde haired lady who speaks...
