A reviewer stated this restaurant practices social distancing. This is just flat out not true! A friend of mine and I went to The Tin Plate on Dec. 3, 2020 at lunchtime, and the restaurant was beginning to get more and more crowded by the minute. My friend and I decided to sit at one of the tables in the bar area, as all the tables in this area were empty. A few minutes after we sat down, two men, neither of whom was wearing a mask, decided to sit at, of all tables, the one right next to where my friend and I were sitting. There were approximately two or three other tables where they could have sat, leaving an empty table(s) between them and my friend and me. The tables were not situated six feet apart, and there were no notices on some tables prohibiting sitting at every table, as you would expect in this kind of set up where no more than every other table should be occupied! Moreover, there were no panes to divide the bar area from the tables that were in the restaurant area, and there were multiple people sitting at a table just inches from my and my friend's table. To make matters worse than they already were, a couple minutes later, a man walked into the bar and sat at, of all bar stools, one right next to my friend's and my table, even though there were several other bar stools, none occupied, that would have been socially distanced from other people! And even though the man at the bar stool was wearing a mask, he did not properly distance himself, and neither of the two men who sat next to us wore a mask into the restaurant or practiced social distancing. I presume they were making a pro-Trump political statement while jeopardizing my friend's and my life. I feel that the manager should have set some ground rules in this situation and made these men wear masks until they got to their table and made them distance themselves from others. When Governor Holcomb stated he would lift restrictions and leave it to the citizens to be responsible, he was lacking the foresight and logic to understand that when some people are responsible, it is futile if not everyone is forced to be responsible, since we know some won't behave responsibly. The lack of responsible behavior of these three men jeopardized my life and the life of my friend, not to mention everyone with whom we will come in contact after leaving this restaurant! If we had not already ordered our food when these self-centered individuals entered our space, we would have left the restaurant! Further, when I got up to leave, I made it a point to state out loud for the two men seated next to us to hear, "Let's go somewhere where we can be safe!" I was more determined to make this comment when I noticed the smug look on his face as I was putting on my mask. So anyone who needs to hear, think about this when you decide to make political statements and when you as restaurant owners, managers, and workers decide to tolerate such statements at the expense of other people's safety, health, and lives! And remember, a mask more protects others from you then it does you from others. Use common sense and show some respect and consideration for others, as well as scientific understanding, rather than political pride, selfishness, and ignorance, when you are...
Read moreThe Tin Plate in Elwood, Indiana is a hidden gem that delivers a truly memorable dining experience. From the moment you walk in, the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff set the tone for an enjoyable meal. Their tenderloin sandwich is absolutely top-tier—massive in size, bursting with flavor, and incredibly juicy and tender. It's clearly made with care and quality ingredients, and it's easily one of the best in the region.
Pair it with their crisp, golden-brown onion rings for the perfect combination. The rings are light, perfectly seasoned, and have just the right crunch without being greasy. Another must-try is their ribbon fries—thin, curly, and packed with flavor. They're an ideal side, especially if you're sharing with a group or just looking for something unique.
The service is just as impressive as the food. The staff is attentive, courteous, and genuinely happy to make your visit a great one. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, The Tin Plate offers that perfect small-town charm with big-time flavor. Highly recommended for anyone looking for hearty, satisfying food and top-notch service in a cozy, casual setting....
Read moreSome friends took us there, about 1:45 on a Tuesday. Saw the "1/2 tenderlion, fries" special and ordered it. The waitress was fun and said that is the special everyday. Okay. Soft drinks are very limited and pricey at $2.99. Ths on-line menu states $1.99. Waitress said the on-line menu is old and not up to date. Decided to give it another try. Upon entering at 3:40 there were only six other people eating in the section, the sign said "meatloaf manhatten" special. My wife ask for it and they were sold out. So the lunch special ends at 2:00, the evening special starts at 3:00 and sold out at 3:40? I ask about the ½ tenderloin special and we were told was everyday. She said that is for lunch only which ends at 2:00. No sign or waitress stated that before. So we both order the "beef manhatten. When it arrived it was not as expected. It was very fine shredded beef in a runny gravey poured over two bread slices with mashed potatoes on them. Did not look good, and it was not. It was not busy but we had a hard time finding a waitress to refill our drinks. Do not plan to go back again. But wanted to give them two chances, but the...
