3 minus. Staff was nice and clean. Waitress was very nice. I did not see the health rating. No staff wearing masks and basically most customers coming in not wearing masks. No social distancing of tables, tables and seats were Tight. Have no idea if the tables and chairs were cleaned with an antibacterial cleaner. It is basically a 100 plus year old house but that's ok. Saw one small bottle of hand sanitizer at the pay station. Food:. We dropped just under $25 for the following: Grilled chicken tenders which cost more than deep fried. Bunches of battered and deep fried chicken livers (I ate about 30% of those. Taste like deep fried in cheap oil or never cleaned oil. Maybe Vegetable Oil (?). My baked or skillet fried livers with onions at home are so much better. I use safflower or grape seed for frying. Slaw was GREAT. Very much like the true original KFC before they were bought decades ago. I forgot to ask if they sell pints and quarts. Steamed cabbage was fine. Mashed potatoes were passable. The dark gravy was a BIG mistake. The big beautiful red Tomatoes slices had the Nickel size cores still in them, not peeled and they were crisp (?). Greenhouse? Texas toast was fine. Their hamburger patties are frozen bought patties. They have pork sandwiches but I saw no signs of a BBQ pit. Per word of mouth from staff, their chicken and dumplings, meatloaf and salmon patties seem to be big hits BUT use bread crumbs or something for a binder. All they have to do is use flaxseed meal and eggs as a binder and the meatloaf and salmon patties would have been gluten free But contaminated when dropped in the deep fryer instead of baking or using a frying pan/s. Same with livers. The menu changes each day, mainly meats change I think. Slaw was great, great, great. There were a few things I would like to try if it were a safe environment but I believe your pallette or lack thereof, price, care to avoid C19/v will have a lot to do with whether or not you go back to Doug's. I believe we will purple pen this...
Read moreAfternoon, so last night we had a party of 5. Hubby, daughter, granddaughter, mom and myself. Parking lot was full around 7pm. To our suprise no wait, we walked right in an was set. We ordered drinks n then about 5 min after we ordered food. Daughter ordered the fried chicken salad no peppers, no tomato’s she had to remove the chicken. It tasted like it was cooked in old grease. Granddaughter had a plain cheeseburger with fries an mac n cheese. She ate it all except fries they were greasy and limp. Mom ordered fried chicken livers no let me say at this time that the server asked her did she want 1 meat with one side or 2 sides. She said 2. She ordered fries and fried okra. This is the only place we come for livers and they were small and hard but she ate them anyway. My husband ordered the all u can eat catfish with turnips n fried okra, he said it tasted great the only thing he didn’t like was the cocktail sauce was ice cold and chunky. He did order a second round of fish an it came out in like 2 minutes. I ordered a meat with 3 sides. Cream corn, slaw and mashed potato’s with gravy. Very disappointed in the steak and potato’s. The steak was so tough n looked like a piece of roast that’s how rounded and thick it was. The taste was nasty n the potato’s tasted like they came out of a box. However I loved the corn an slaw. Now remember when I said mom ordered meat with 2 sides n she ordered fries n granddaughter ordered fries. When I got the bill I was charged for 2 fries at $8 so i asked the server about it. She said fries are not considered a side now why did she not mention that when taking the order? I will go back just for the corn but was very disappointed with the taste of our food. Our bill ended up being $95.60 before tip n yes we tipped only thing she did wrong was she didn’t inform us about the fries not...
Read moreWell restaurant owned by family unfortunately Doug has passed as a matter of fact the local bridge was renamed in his honor. The restaurant has been sold the new owners promise to keep the charm and the menu the same. But they're going to do a major remodel of the entire place and fix the parking lot. So if you want to down home Southern meat and three or breakfast with country ham biscuits and gravy this is your place. Lunch is printed on a paper and passed around because it changes every day they do always have chicken livers which are always good. Also one thing unique about it the servers take your order on a Post-It note and then you take the post-it note to the register when you're ready to go of course they also give her the cook so by the time you get us out of the grease on it. You can see it in the pictures. Service is friendly if you've been there a couple times I know you that will come up hey how you doing give you a hug most the people that walked in that kind of do what their order was right away a regular down home country feel. Today I had breakfast eggs hash browns biscuits and gravy with two friends with me both have meatloaf with sides. Everything was wonderful. So come on down and see the place quickly before they remodel it. Then come again after remodel to see who that looks the food will probably be the same excellent down home meat and...
