I was visiting Emporia for work today. Emporia has very few restaurants, and the ones I've tried have not been great. I saw that this restaurant had good reviews, and also had a few things on their menu that I wanted to try. So, I visited during my lunch break and figured that I could order my food, eat, and get back to the place I'm working today.
When I walked in, I spoke with the cashier and asked her if the sauce on the grilled chicken bowl had dairy in it (I am allergic and will get sick if I eat it). She told me that it had yoghurt in it, so I asked if there was another sauce that did not have any dairy. She suggested that I add the Tzatziki sauce (which is definitely not dairy free) so I asked her to just not put any sauce on it. I wanted to be extra sure that there was nothing with dairy, so I read off the list of ingredients that were listed on the menu and asked her to confirm that these were the only ingredients. She said "Yes, that's all that's included". I told her "Ok, great. So no sauce, and then only those ingredients. That's what I'd like".
I then sat down and waited for about 15 minutes. When the food came out, I opened the bag and immediately saw that the bowl was covered in melted cheese. I walked up to the register and said "Do you remember how I just went through this whole thing about not eating dairy?" She said "Yes." I said "Do you also remember how I listed off all of the ingredients, and you confirmed that there wasn't anything else that would be added?" She again said "Yes." Then, I showed her the bowl with an absurd amount of cheese on it, and said "So, why is this covered in cheese?" and she replied "Ooooh..I forgot that they also add cheese on top. Sorry."
Why would the restaurant list nearly all of the ingredients on the menu, and then just decide to leave off the fact that there was cheese? It makes absolutely no sense. The cashier told me that they would have to re-make the bowl, and that it would be about ten more minutes. I was already in a hurry and wanted to get back to where I was working, so I definitely didn't want to spend another 8-10 minutes waiting for the bowl to be re-made.
I didn't give them one star because the food was actually decent, and I know that mistakes do happen. I gave the restaurant two stars though because I was so incredibly specific and thorough about what what I can and cannot eat, yet they still put melted cheese all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love that this side of town finally has some good food! I get off of school, and I have to stay at my uncles house until my step-dad can get me, and that takes a while sometimes! I get hungry, and the walk to taza is so small. The food is great usually, depends on what you order, some stuff ain't so good like their chicken tenders and onion rings, but their fries and their bowls are HEAVENLY, hence why only 4 stars for the food. The food is decently priced, but the portion size and quality makes up for it, with the bowls and fries at least! The service is nice, the lady got me a top to the bowl (which is really cool, didn't need a to-go tray) I had without me even having to ask (I obviously couldn't finish it), and she thanked me when I put money in the tip jar (I put 4 dollars). And the atmosphere is a bit cramped, but that's a symptom of the building they're in, so I can't complain, but there's at the very least a bit of effort I can see in decoration, I notice it for sure, the sign is really nice and I love the stuff they have on the walls and by the counter. Awesome place, and this will become a regular stop for me after I get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI feel like a treasure hunter! This shop is a true Gem. I saw food and flavors I have not tried before. I got a Gyro Bowl and wings which were very very good (tazza sauce on the bowl and boom boom wings). The staff treated us like weāve lived in the neighborhood the whole time. The owner took time to ask me and my kids a little bit about ourselves, then went back to make our meals. The waitress carried conversation while the food was cooking. Amazing community vibes. Amazing food⦠but as I was leaving, the owner was helping an older lady carry her order to her car with a smile. I was impressed all around. You donāt get anything like...
