Recently had the experience of dining here for a birthday celebration on Saturday 1/4/25 as a party of six we gathered in the bar that was very busy, but soon found a spot at the bar to order a drink. The bartenders were awesome, very informative, friendly and welcoming. In hindsight, we should’ve stayed at the bar and ate there. Upon moving to our table, the service experience was less than adequate. Our waitress (who told us she had been there for many years) made us feel as though we were bothering her or imposing on her for simple things like a plate to put our bread and butter on. She put the bread basket and water pitcher on the table robotically without offering to fill our glasses. The food was OK. The onion soup was probably the poorest example I have ever tasted (like salted water with onion powder). My entree was the pasta with shrimp, scallops and shiitake mushrooms and it was excellent. My friend had a steak with mushrooms and zip sauce and he was very happy with that. The third gentleman at our table also had a steak and appeared to be happy. Two of the ladies both had the chicken dish With shiitake mushroom and prosciutto, with a cream sauce served with a side of spaghetti. The 3rd lady only wanted some vegetables as she had just had surgery and was not wanting much, our server replied “so your not having a dinner “ which I thought was inappropriate. The sides of spaghetti were served up ice cold like refrigerator cold. And the dish was very uninspiring. The prosciutto was nonexistent and the sauce had a funky flavor to it. Reporting the cold pasta to our server produce some unnecessary excuses for the mishap, along with facial attitude, the dishes were corrected and we moved on.. We had brought a small cake to celebrate a birthday which we gave to our server at the beginning of the meal. She asked if we wanted a dessert, and as we reminded her the we had given her the cake, she whisk away before I could ask her what other items would be available. Upon returning. she brought our cake still wrapped up in the bag that we purchased it in from a specialty bake shop in Monroe Michigan. It was simply dropped in the center of the table, still wrapped with a pile of forks for us to basically serve ourselves. The proper thing to do would be to put it on a plate and make some type of celebratory Service out of it. I was able to pin her down on what other desserts were available and order some ice cream to go with the cake. Throughout the whole evening, she was very short, very quick to run away and offered very little in the way of proactive service. As we were paying the bill are empty cocktail glasses we’re still on the table with leftover plates and the bread basket. Table maintenance is obviously something not practiced here in this restaurant. I initially was not going to write a review and just let things go, but after talking to the other guests about the dining experience everyone felt the same way. One gust said they won’t come back. And next time, we’ll choose another place. I might return but definitely would sit at the bar. I’m retired now from fine dining food and beverage industry and it’s sad to see a restaurant with such potential being drugged down by a lackluster representative as our server was. TIPS defined = to insure proper...
Read moreSo after over a year of wanting to try this place and tonight I finally did. First off the history of this place is amazing. When I was young we used to go to a Purple Gang hideout that was up near Rose City Michigan and I'm a bit of a history buff so I was super excited to go here. I should also give a little disclaimer. I am heavily tattooed so maybe the sub par service that I received had something to do with that. I don't know but I've been trying to find another reason for the past few hours and cannot come up with anything. The short version.. tried to ask waitress questions about the menu and drink menu. She wold not engage and was very short. I order a dirty martini. It comes not dirty. So rather than take it back and make it right I am brought a glass of olive juice. Hey! I get to make my own drink, shouldn't I be cut in on the tip? Really? Poor service. I suggest leaving but my wife will have no part of that because she knows that I've been looking forward to eating here. Next I order appetizers. We get them and place our orders. The waitress grabs our calamari plate with calamari still on it and speeds off. Seriously?? We get our entrees and they taste great. The waitress is too preoccupied to answer questions and could really give a snap either way. Two tables over the waiter is chatting up a couple about the history of the place. I felt robbed. He ever brought them a scrapbook of the place. Next time I go there and I will because I enjoyed the food but the waitress RUINED the experience. My wife and I started out working in the food service industry. She was a waitress at a fine dining restaurant and I was a cook. I can't tell you the last time that I left a 15 percent tip, and that was overly generous for the service that I received. It took everything that I had to not leave 10 percent. There is no way in hell that I would ever eat there again if I had to have that...
Read moreI wish I had a better review to share on our experience. We had high expectations for this restaurant; we've heard the food and service was superb but that was not the case for our first visit last night, 10/3. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and arrived at 5:30 pm to be seated. by 5:45, we still did not have a server come out to greet us, nor had any water or drinks ordered. I went to the host stand to let them know and I got asked, "are you in the pit"? As a guest, I do not know the names of the sections. The host quickly replied that our server was notified and should be out soon. Our server did not come out until 5:50, so 20 minutes after being seated and 5 minutes after supposedly being notified by the host.
We did not get our food until 7:20 pm, almost 2 hours after being seated. We had children with us and to say the least, they were losing patience and very, very hungry. When the food arrived, it was OK, not great as everyone suggested. I ordered the Vitello con Granchi, the sauce and topping was lukewarm at best and had terrible presentation with sauce splattered all over the plate and dripping down the side. My sister's filet was barely warm, my son's kid pasta was borderline cold, both kids chicken tenders were not fresh. As I mentioned, the food had good flavor, but it wasn't worth the wait to eat it barely warm and sloppy. I had planned to come back for our anniversary but after this experience, I'm afraid to waste my entire evening waiting around. Also, it was very, VERY warm in there. The majority of our party was sweating and uncomfortable during our visit. We even heard the tables behind us complain of the heat too, so we know it wasn't just us.
I hope that this was just an "off night", but it certainly did not live up to the...
