We didn't stay overnight here but stopped for breakfast on our way to VT. You definitely can't beat the location because the gorgeous bridge is right there, like an impressive entry to the Berkshires. The restaurant is a bit warn inside but that's what adds to the charm. Don't let the older interior deter you because their breakfast is fantastic. Their over easy eggs are loaded with flavor as if cooked in a cast iron skillet. The homemade breads, all I can say is I could have eaten the loaf. I believe the waitress shared their bread is made at Hagar Farm in Shelburne. I got the maple walnut bread and OMG 😱, to dieeeeeee for! I can only imagine the sourdough or English muffin. Sausage is the flat patty and home fries are semi crisp outside with soft center. Service was prompt and it looked like just two young adults were holding down the dining room, with no trouble at all, on a Saturday morning. Plenty of parking too. Bathrooms dated but very clean. Again, the vintage decor definitely adds to the throw back feel if the place and we loved it. Oh, huge heavy Captain's chairs, like the ones in some of the Barnes & Noble stores, and heavy wooden tables are fitting to the 60s decor. There's also a bar area with a nice large TV for sports viewing and high top tables. You can eat breakfast in there. Also a huge event space that would be a great spot for a boutique size wedding especially with the amazing pictures the bridle party would capture on the bridge...think Fall foliage. No question we'll be returning. Oh did I mention incredibly reasonable prices. I don't know where you can still find a platter of breakfast items for under $10.00. Also great...

Classic New England restaurants - revisionist colonial decor, fireplaces, prime rib specials, etc - are almost extinct. Too many favorites have either closed down or updated to become some kind of blant Home Depot americana. The French King restaurant has retained the pine paneling and comfy wooden chairs that I miss so much - while I'm sure some folks want a more Guy Fieri bbq beers and burgers yee-haw experience, I wish for more restaurants that make you want to order an Old Fashioned and tuck into a 20 oz steak with a baked potato and an iceburg lettuce salad served in a pressed wood laminate bowl - unpretentious culinary fundamentals, platonic solids, the kind of food that is unconcerned with cholesterol or the last 50 years of trends, and just tastes good. I've only tried breakfast here (i'll be back for the prime rib eventually) and it was great - the eggs benedict is a generous portion with a rich, classic, un-tampered-with hollandaise, with crispy homefries that COULD HAVE been cut fresh that morning or COULD HAVE come from a frozen 10lb Sysco bag, but it doesn't matter: they were really, seriously good. Owners of the French King, you've got a good thing here. Famous Bills and the Four Leaf Clover are gone, you're left holding the mantle. Dont. Change. Anything. Maybe close the door to the function/tavern/storage room near the entrance and bathrooms, but aside from that it's a welcoming classic next to one of the great New...

Please dont decide bases on a negative review because we had a GREAT expirence! We went for dinner on Sat 9/14/2019. We were there after the dinner time so our waitress wasnt very busy. Because of this we got a lot of her time & attention. She was very friendly but still professional & we felt like we had know her for a while even though we just met. We had our 1 yr old w/ us & she was great w/ him as well! The dining room was very clean & neat. Lighting was appropriate for dinner atmosphere & the bar had a few small groups of people who where having a great time (not being sarcastic they genuinely sounded like they were having fun!) I walked around w/ the baby for a few min & seen the kitchen as i passed & it looked clean & normal (I've worked in a few of them!) The restrooms were nice, very clean & well stocked. Our appatizers came out hot then bread butter & salads came out perfectly timed then our meals. We got Surf & Turf & NY Sirloin Steak. It was all cooked medium rare just like we ordered. We had a great expirence & good food. Im not at all involved w/ this family business in fact this was my 1st time there. I work for my own family & I know people have 1 little issue & take their frustration out online by telling the world & exaggerating so when you do have a good expirence please make sure to share that as well. Small family business depend on...

We went to the French king restaurant for their breakfast with a large group with a reservation. We waited 45 minutes for the "ONE" waiter to take our order and an hour for our food to come out ! That's an hour and 45 minutes before the food came out and then 15 more minutes to serve us all. The food was excellent and a good value and the waiter did a very good job for being by himself. I hold the restaurant responsible for not providing any help considering he had to wait on the whole room, not just us. Some people got cold coffee but the food was great. Definitely go here, it is really worth the trip.... Just don't go in a large group. I think we were there a total of Two hours and 50 minutes. The restaurant itself was clean and nicely decorated. There are "No" ramps here so you will have multiple stairs to deal with inside and out. The bathroom was clean and the location of the restaurant is very nice and convenient with ample parking. Bring your appetite because the plates are big depending on what you order 😄

NEVER put off til tomorrow what you can do today...!We passed The French King motel & restaurant 1,000's of times...and we WON'T be doing this in the future...BOTH are GREAT and we're going back FOR SURE...ALL the rates and prices were right on and the Prondecki's are on hand EVERY DAY ALL DAY...I'd say that gives them an edge over chain rooms...the charm is really in being able to freely walk the Bridge to enjoy the views of the Connecticut river without concern for the timed parking,we spent a couple hours combined up there at sunset AND sunrise,UNREAL.We feel like this is the PERFECT place to stay to explore The Pioneer Valley and The Berkshires....and is even MORE perfect spot to base yourself to explore Ma.Vt & Nh ALL in one day which are ALL within within 30 minutes of the French King...Frank and his family REALLY know how to do things, there aren't enough 'stars' I can give them.
