This was our first time ever being there and it was a Saturday night- Dec. 2 to be exact. We arrived about 20 minutes early for our reservation and ironically, they could not find us on the list. That being said, I was not expecting the experience to be a good one when it started off in that manner. Here is where things take a turn for the better: they actually seated us within 10 minutes tops! The entire facility was jam-packed which included several parties and although noisy, it was not really loud. The restaurant offers both booths and tables which have sponsors of different businesses on the table tops which I think is very unique for our area. The decor is also very "busy" but tasteful and not overdone. The only oddity is the presence of an Aladdin Castle pin ball machine in the corner of the side dining room near the kitchen. I can only assume this is a throwback to the old restaurant that used to be there, which I had never been in. The menu was a simple sheet of paper with some very unique and original specials, but not too far from the basic 'meat and potatoes' that this area gravitates toward. The only disappointment in the food was the complimentary house salad as it was just iceberg lettuce. However, the house dressing (which was a type of vinaigrette) was very flavorful and did not drench the tossed salad. Our meals were brought out very quickly for as busy as they were, and the food was hot and excellently presented! The use of various sized iron skillets for the augratin potatoes and mac and cheese main course was a simple yet classy touch. I myself had the mac and cheese and my husband had the brisket. The plates did not look like they held a lot of food but believe me, it was plenty! The mac and cheese pictured is what I had left when I finished. It was never ending! The flavor combinations in both meals was nothing less than superb - so simple but you could taste each individual ingredient, right down to the fresh rosemary sprigs used as garnish. Our waitress was perfect! Timely, knowledgeable and helpful with choices. I apologize, but I am not sure of her name - possibly Katie. The bill for 2 with alcohol and a bread pudding dessert (which came home to try) was very...
Read moreSharing constructive feedback so there can be adjustments so this business can thrive into the future. We visited 3/21 with a table of 6. It seemed like they were a bit short staffed. One member of our table said afterwards the waitresses seemed stressed. After placing our order, we didn't hear anything for 30-40+ minutes. No updates. I got up to inquire about it just to make sure our order was in the queue (again, no updates so it makes us wondering as errors happen). I noticed a young lady (maybe 10 or 11) approach our waitress who was at another table and summoned her to the back kitchen area. A moment later and our waitress emerged with our food. It looked like a couple of the dishes had been maybe sitting a minute or two (which was part of our concern and why I went to check on things). Three in the party had the rib special and all lamented that they were dry. Taste was good but meat was dry. The Tuscan pasta dish was excellent. The brisket sandwich was good. Asked for fries instead of chips and some of the fries were mushy/limp. Also a $2 upcharge for fries (is that really necessary?). Salad for entrees were good however the two sides, tomatoes and onions, were sparse - these items are cheap, add a few more in is our recommendation. It took a bit to get our bill and then to pay the bill. I think they need 1 or 2 people "floating" around the restaurant watching water levels, giving updates, checking in, etc. There's an upscale feel and menu here but the service this night felt like a small town low budget diner. This place has set the bar high for themselves and with the higher prices, expectations are high. I write these things for improvement to make this one of central IL's best...
Read moreDefinitely make a reservation! Went on a Saturday night @ 5:30, it was already very busy! I had made a reservation and they had a table ready for us! Saw lots of people coming in, and one family left because of a wait time. Started with the Pork Belly Cubes appetizer, it has fig jam on a pecan crusted goat cheese base. Not a fan of goat cheese, but this was soo good! We both ordered the queen size Prime Rib with Au Gratin potatoes, which was a $3 upcharge. It also comes with a side salad that they mix up at tableside and a couple dinner rolls. Prime Rib and the juices it came with were excellent! Long time since we have had this at a restaurant. The Au Gratin potatoes were a miss step. Normally, I see sliced potatoes with cheese. These were made with hashbrowns/shredded potatoes. It's more of a cheese potato bake and a little salty to me. The side salad we didn't care for but husband liked the dressing. Finally, we splurged and got dessert! German Chocolate Cake and Bailey's Cheesecake. These are sooo good. Give Busy Corner a run for their money with their pies. We also had 2 Beers each with our meal. It was a fairly expense dinner out. Total with tax $152.00 Was the meal worth it? Yes, we knew we would pay more for having the Prime Rib and dessert! Looking to go back and trying other items on the menu that looked...
