More of a 3.5 star. But I enjoyed it and want to return, so I rounded up. Here is my honest review as "Foodie" and dive lover.
My wife and I went as a date night without the children. We ordered half the menu just to try everything and take leftovers home. We liked everything we ordered. Plan to return again soon. We went at 5pm for dinner last Saturday. (Only doing this now because Google keeps telling me I haven't reviewed it yet. So shut up Google I'm doing it now)
Pros : Good menu selection. Everything we tried was dang good. I was able to get 2 sandwiches out of the tenderloin. (Better than schooners too. Way better! I will even say best tenderloin in central Illinois)
Cons: It is a bar. Expect bar activity. We sat across from the bar. No big deal to me. But I know a lot of people who would hate the environment. Canned soda. I HATE canned drinks. I get it though. I just Hate it.
If you are fine with the bar setting and canned drinks. I promise you will love the food. Oh they also have specials to according to Facebook. I Facebook ads are how I discovered it. Drove past it a million times. Didn't ever think to check it out. Saw the Facebook post and knew I was going to check it out.
I will take photos next time. I put my phone away when I go out to eat cause that's my wife and I's time together. I'll edit...
Read moreWent for the smoked brisket that they kept advertising on facebook. First time visit for me. Was hard to figure out which door went to the restaurant, since it appears that they have what looks to be a long in process remodeling going on. No one seated me or gave me a menu, but I knew what I came for and seated myself. Two ladies in the booth in front of me came in at the same time I did. No one ever came to wait on us so we hailed down one of the ladies behind the bar. She said they didn't have any waitress, but would take care of us. The meal was huge! Enough for maybe 3 people. Huge pile of brisket, homemade mac & cheese, homemade potato salad and homemade baked beans. The meat was tough with mostly fat, but lightly smoke flavored. Better have good teeth. The mac & cheese was probably the best thing on the plate. The potato salad was very good, but the potato chunks were huge. The beans were also very good with large chunks of meat in with the beans. Don't know what kind of meat, but it was good. Some people may not like large chunks of meat in the beans though. Lot of food for the money. I had to...
Read moreMy wife and I, along with our daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and nine month old great-granddaughter, went to the steak fry yesterday evening. We had a good time and the staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the woman taking the orders, who helped get our great-granddaughter situated. It was a family friendly atmosphere, as the dining area is in a different area than the bar, although towards the end of the night the bar patrons started migrating into the dining area. The food was good, although a little towards the expensive side imho. One suggestion I would make is to include some type of bread (dinner roll, garlic bread, even sliced bread...), and have some type of dessert available, but it is a complete, tasty meal and we all left the table satisfied. The baked potatoes were very good and cooked just right. We will come...
