Hickory Stick Barbeque — Restaurant in Everman

Went to this place back in May 2018. Did a review on their facebook page. They removed my review to make their page and product appear perfect. So doing my review here for the world to see. Short version review because google limits how much we can say in a review. I would give this place less than 1 star if I could. Go ANYWHERE else for BBQ. This place was just horrible. 2 person staff was dismissive and borderline rude. Only 1 other guest dining in when I visited. (A good, even a mediocre, BBQ restaurant would have a bigger crowd) Ordered a chicken dinner with 2 sides. Price $13.99 (overpriced for that time) Received 2 sliced up, frozen, processed, precooked, preseasoned chicken "patties" from Walmart. (Not real chicken) No Mac & Cheese on the menu at that time. Country Green Beans were completely void of ANY flavor; drowned out in water. Potato Salad was also void of proper flavors as well and was basically mashed potatoes with some raw potato chunk in it while also missing some key potato salad ingredients. BBQ sauce is watered down Heinz 57 steak sauce. Not BBQ sauce. And a cheap slice of bread came with it. Also, not sure where they cook their food, but it is not at the restaurant because they do not have ANY cooking appliances on site (no grill, smoker, stove, oven or even a hot plate). Just hot/cold prep tables/storage stations. If bringing food in from somewhere offsite; 100% illegal, unsanitary, unhealthy and unsafe for consumption. They are nowhere near the "Best" BBQ as they advertise. And they hide negative reviews, like mine, to appear like they are perfect. Again, fair warning, go ANYWHERE else for BBQ. ANYTHING is better...

I found this place July 3rd, 2018 as we are from out of town and looking for BBQ. They had 4.7 stars so I started reading reviews. Figured if they had been in business for over 40 years, then they must be doing something right. We arrived in the parking lot and it was love at first smell! Upon walking in, we were greeted by a gentleman behind the counter that waited patiently for us to order. He politely answered all of our questions. I had the combo plate that consisted of sliced beef and sausage. You get two sides with the combo plate so I got the potato salad and coleslaw. I wanted to try the ribs, so I asked for him to put two ribs on the plate as well. All of it was amazing and the ribs were fall off the bone and was seasoned perfectly! Since we were from out of town, I had wished I had gotten some ribs to take back home. Fast forward to the week of July 4th, 2019. I was going through Google maps and noticed a green dot and wondered what it was that I marked. I zoomed in and noticed it was Hickory Stick BBQ and it brought back good memories!! I asked the family if they wanted to go and they were all on board! This time around I order the same as last year. I forgot to ask for the sliced beef with the fat on it, but the sliced beef without the fat was great too! Ribs were still fall off the bone and awesome! I guess this will become our yearly family tradition from now on. I would give them 10 stars if I could. ...

My worst experience dealing with this place was today. While I frequent this place often I usually come in the mornings and deal with Mr jones. Well today I came in the evening and there was Mrs jones, while he is not so friendly either he’s never been as rude as she was. I first off called my order in. Get there to a large Caucasian party already ordering that seemed to know the owners. While they stood there laughed and talked and served them their $300+ order. No one ever greeted me or let me know they’d be with me. After about 20 minutes another couple walks in and they finally finish this large order. Mrs jones looks right over me and asks how could she help them. I politely told her that I was here first and called my order in. They proceed to pull it from under the counter in which I check it and it’s not what I ordered. Her exact words were thank God you checked it no apology or anything. Then the server takes my plate and proceeds over to her coworker whispering and smiling about the situation and remaking my plate. I reluctantly took it and did not ask for my money back. All though ive never saw my kind there it didn’t bother me because I’ve never experienced this and the food is okay for a reasonable price. But not worth this...
